Could this be the first of many to come office buildings on Observer Highway? Are plans still in place to build over the railyards and add some highrises that will eventually connect Newport with Hoboken?

Or James McKnight.

About the comments on Conservative vs. Liberal. The greedy opportunistic politicians in this town would change their 'coat' if the demographic here changed. They would still be greedy opportunistic suckers but they would try to sound conservative. Roberts is a reformer when he runs, but then look at the core of him, his actions tell you what he is, and history shows you he will change his outward appearance at the drop of a hat.
Who was the architect? They are terrible.
Probably Dean Marchetto [sp]... Apparently he's the only architect allowed in Hoboken.

That parking lot that used to be there had a lot of nice older trees. Now there's this 1960s-looking building. It makes the Burchard Building at Stevens on River Terrace and 5th look classy.
I’ve received several emails from folks ranging from “what is that?” to “hey, it’s ugly - how come they didn’t have the historical committee on their butts?”
It looks pretty bauhaus to me, and if that style isn't historic, then I don't know what is. So the historical committee would have nothing to say.

I couldn't agree more. What was once a beautiful space with lovely trees & flowers has now become yet another ugly building. What's wrong with this city? It was a nice entrance to the city & now they've ruined it! :(
many of their section 8 units uptown were scheduled to go to market rate but i read that they were NOT approved in the interests of "diversity." yes, the word used by the state was "diversity"...but since those units were kept on as section 8 it allowed Hoboken developers to build more "upscale" units. i'm talking about units that Applied has owned for over 30yrs and should now be permitted to be offered to the public at Market Rate rents. if that did happen then builders would no longer be permitted to build luxury condos in our town. they would have to build apt buildings that would rent for below market rates, or convert some other units to section 8 (like the projects? charge close to real rent?) or not build. since none of that is going to happen those existing section 8 units have to be left as section 8 according to the diversity police at the State of NJ. i wonder if there is a fear that too many conservatives could move into hoboken and disrupt the party machine control of the cash cow?
*******
I thought all Applied was now market rate. When someone leaves, the apartment goes market.
