Pitbull fight!

9/17/2008:

Overheard just a few moments ago on the Hoboken411 Live Police and Fire radio.

308 Harrison St., Pitbull vs. Pitbull fight. Apparently a man was walking his dog on a leash, and another pitbull with no leash began attacking his dog – and doing damage…”

Brady- a lab’s jaw is not applying as much force per square inch as a pit. That’s an absolute fact (that you can verify with the akc or any dog stat site). That being said a lab can kill- any dog can kill. Training is key. Pits and rottis can be good dogs, just as labs and collies can be bad.
ok, so i did a quick google. a dr at national geographic measures some dogs and a pit bull was 235 psi, rottweiler was 328psi, lab is 125, and humans are 170. but you reiterated the point i was trying to make. any dog can be bad. a bad large dog can hurt you, whether it’s a lab or a pit bull. i’ve been around labs, goldens, and rotties my entire life, and i don’t fear any one of them more than the others.
You belong on the small school bus. A pit bull has been systematically bred to fight to the death in a pit. That is their history – ferocity, aggressiveness and strength. A tea cup toy dog is bread to be a substitute for a child and carried around in a tote bag. FYI – The Rottweiler, or Rottweil Metzgerhund, is a large dog breed originating in Germany as herding dogs. It is a hardy and very intelligent breed. Early Rottweilers worked as beasts of burden, carrying wood and other products to market. During the first and second World Wars, Rottweilers were put… Read more »

King of Rock–way to quote that bastion of encyclopedic accuracy Wikipedia in your definition of what constitutes a Pit Bull and what they were bred for. In any case, it has much more to do with how the dog is raised and cared for than anything else–pit bulls have been used in a multitude of different jobs throughout their existence and shouldn’t be entirely judged on idiots like Michael Vick who choose to exploit and abuse them into desperate creatures.

If you don’t like Pit Bulls go get yourself a Chihuahua and be happy. 😉

Pit Bull is a term commonly used to describe several breeds of dog in the Molosser family that were historically used for dog fighting. The breeds most often placed in this category are the American Pit Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier and Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

KoR – Pit Bulls(all the breeds that you list) were originaly bred to protect children. Hence the loyalty and the aggression to stangers
Sorry chief, the pit bull never had any guard dog history. I really wish you guys would get you heads out of the ground.

FYI – pits tend to be more dog aggressive than people aggressive. It is a fact that there was selective breeding, just like with every other pure breed to achieve certain traits. They are specifically bred fighting dogs – THERE HAS NEVER BEEN AN ALTERNATIVE USE
