I missed this one - from New Jersey Lawyer:
Hoboken cops facing illegal arrest damages
“Three Hoboken police detectives who barged into a Guttenberg apartment and arrested the occupant, only to release him three hours later when it became clear he was not the suspect they sought, now will be liable for damages at a future trial.
Essex County Judge Mary K. Costello granted a summary judgment motion against the three detectives on charges that following a false lead, they illegally arrested Guttenberg resident Gregory Martin and searched his apartment after he tried to close his door in front of them.”

It seem as if “here we go again”; however, let’s get the facts before any knee jerk reaction. Everyone is entitled to due process. In the event that the officers are found at fault then the proper disciplinary action(s) should be taken promptly. The key word is promptly…not like the prolonged dicsciplinary action for the Kenner and Swat Team fiascos…and hopefully without the cost of an extended investigation by a labor attorney for the investigation, another to present the charges and then a retired judge who will hear the charges…Also, we also hired an emergency Public Safety Director for this. Hey! these cases are still pending since last year….some emergency! Oh! perhaps they will go away

Here’s a nice little fact for you - The SGT involved now works in Internal Affairs and investigates complaints against other cops.

I’m the first to say on this site my beliefs about what officers can, should, and should not do especially in Hoboken or by its officers. With that being said, I know both Detectives William Vera and Michael DePalma and these guys are 100% good and honest cops and an absolute asset to the Hoboken PD and Hoboken residents.
These guys have taken many guns, drugs, and criminals off the streets and were clearly doing their jobs to help a repeat offender who robbed a Hoboken resident of $10,000 worth of property. Think about it, if someone robbed $10G off of you and the police actually went after them would you be pissed? NO!
Big shit Detective Vera put his foot in the guys door, it is a safety issue and the officers did not know who or what else was in the apartment and I’m certain based upon the suspects other behavior the cops had reason at the time to take action and arrest the suspect.
Everyday cops followup false leads they come across and ofetn only determine well after the fact that the lead was false or not related to their case. How often do you see the fake moving company signs posted all around town looking to scam residents, I see them everywhere all day long. These skells are plaguing unknowing Hoboken residents out of their cash and belongings. In this case the cops acted and unfortunately lost.
If was another cop from another department that ID’d the suspect so why is he not held accountable as well? It is a shame these good guys got screwed!
My question is, why was the case heard in Essex County when the incident took place in Hudson County?

I had a type error, here is how the paragraph should have gone.
These guys have taken many guns, drugs, and criminals off the streets and were clearly doing their jobs to help catch a repeat offender who robbed a Hoboken resident of $10,000 worth of property. Think about it, if someone robbed $10G off of you and the police actually went after them would you be pissed? NO!

Ever since the whole SWAT ordeal everyone thinks the entire police force is dishonest. Unfortunatly thats the world we live in where 1 apple spoils the whole bunch

Hey, FMTVENG who gave the not so cleaver quote. These guys do not have big egos. In fact they are the most humble individuals that you will ever find. They are hard working individuals who actually work. They were just doing their jobs. I am not an officer. But I can relate to their problems. Put yourself in their shoes. Then talk…. We do not know what really happened on that day but knowing the character of the individuals I asure you that they did the best that they could under the circumstances.
