New Women’s Running Club Forming in Hoboken

“We are in the process of forming a running club for women in Hoboken to begin in late September/early October. We’ll start out with two or three runs a week and adjust depending on the interest. An early morning weekday run is planned.

The idea is to create a welcoming and supportive environment for women who are already runners or who want to become runners. Beginners are encouraged to join as we’ll emphasize training, development and participating in local races.

If you have any suggestions for what you would like in a running club or want to be part of the organizing of the group please email us at elysianettes@gmail.com

I joined the Elysianettes for a bunch of runs last week and really loved it. Many of the women were fast but just as many were middle of the pack and there were enough beginners/slow-pokes that I didn’t feel left out. All the gals were friendly too. The schedule has been posted on their flyers, but in case you haven’t seen it:

Monday’s they meet at 6am in front of the uptown nysc and run for about 3 miles

Tuesday’s they meet at 6th & hudson at 8pm and run for about 4.5-5 miles

Wednesday’s they meet at 6am in front of the downtown nysc and run for about 3 miles

saturday they meet near the gazebo at church square park at 8:30am and run anywhere between 3 and 11 miles

or you can always email them at elysianettes@gmail.com

Another organized run, woo-hoo!! I think this is a great idea and will be a lot of fun. Why should everyone have to run with the HOHAs? Their runs tend to be at a very fast pace, and it’s not always fun to be hanging on for your life during what is supposed to be an easy training run. A little diversity is healthy and great for the spirit of competition. Plus, this group is women friendly, and I raise my cup of Gatorade to that!
