McCain selects Sarah Palin for VP

8/29/2008:
Do you think an attractive Vice Presidential running mate has secured John McCain’s victory?

From the AP:
McCain chooses Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for V.P.
John McCain tapped little-known Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin to be his vice presidential running mate on Friday in a startling selection on the eve of the Republican National Convention.
Two senior campaign officials disclosed Mccain’s decision a few hours before the Republican presidential nominee-to-be and his newly-minted running mate appeared at a rally in swing-state Ohio.
Palin is a self-styled hockey mom and political reformer who has been governor of her state less than two years.
Palin’s selection shocked numerous Republican officials.
In making his pick, Mccain passed over several more prominent prospects who had figured in speculation for months — Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge among them.
At 44, Palin is a generation younger that Sen. Joseph Biden of Delaware, who is Barack Obama’s running mate on the Democratic ticket.
She is three years Obama’s junior, as well — and McCain has made much in recent weeks of Obama’s relative lack of experience in foreign policy and defense matters.
Palin flew overnight to an airport in Ohio near Dayton, and even as she awaited her formal introduction, some aides said they had believed she was at home in Alaska.
She is a former mayor of Wasilla who became governor of her state in December, 2006 after ousting a governor of her own party in a primary and then dispatching a former governor in the general election.
More recently, she has come under the scrutiny of an investigation by the Republican-controlled legislature into the possibility that she ordered the dismissal of Alaska’s public safety commissioner because he would not fire her former brother-in-law as a state trooper.

Does this mean McCain/Palin are now a lock to win?

obama tells cheering crowd to speak to their neighbors, even the republicans and “get in their face!”
i’d have to say that many of the obamaniacs in hoboken have already taken his directive! if for some reason you find yourself engaged in a conversation regarding the merits of the candidates do not be surprised when they switch to personal attacks on you. i have been mildly entertained to find myself berated by a person when i pointed out that obama is running against mccain, not palin. the standard “well if you’re so smart”…and “if you’re in finance then YOU don’t want any change!”…the raised tone, no, yelling that erupts from these ignorant young liberals is shocking.
one another interesting note Joe Biden appeared on Good Morning America and responded to questions on obama’s plan to raise taxes. he said and i quote “we want to take money and put in back in the pocket of the middle-class people.”
now i’m sorry if some of you already know this, but this wealth redistribution. this is taxing one class, and handing the money to another class. are you liberals comfortable with this? you know the obama/biden plan and you think it’s just fine?

I don’t want anyone getting in my face and spouting politics. This is beyond annoying and especially so when you are dealing with undereducated, uber-political, rock-the-vote twenty-somethings. Get ready for the shoulder bump kids, because I’m not signing your petition and it’s a coming…

What do you mean Obama is running against McCain?? Are you silly? McCain is going to DIE, so we should only care about Palin. Delusional idiots.

Wealth redistribution. What a load of crap.
You can’t expect to retire if you don’t put money into the market. How many middle class folks have seen their pensions, 401ks and other retirement funds evaporate?
What about allowing the financial markets to run at the disadvantage of those who don’t have millions to throw around? If you can, for example, by speculation, drive up the price of oil to your benefit, who pays for your windfall profits? That’s artifical demand, not the “It’s demand from China that’s driving the price up” line of bullshit we were all told a year ago.
Wealth redistribution indeed.

Damn, I really like Biden, but it seems he’s being pushed to do things against his judgement. If you recall last week, Joe Biden spoke in a town hall like setting and told the people that Hillary Clinton was more qualified than him to be President, and definitely Vice President. Remember what he said of Obama during the primaries.
Today, Thursday, Joe Biden tells the people paying higher taxes is a patriotic act.
Now, I’m one who thinks Biden is a lot smarter than that. So, are we hearing Biden’s thoughts, or he merely the messenger of the almighty Teleprompter which team Obama has forced Obama and Biden to read from to avoid making the past gaffes already trounced upon weekly?

slim-e, i don’t know what you are rambling on about, but i was quoting biden on his comments concerning the obama tax hikes. please concentrate.
and let me see if i have this right; you said “ALLOWING the financial markets to run at the disadvantage to those that don’t have millions to throw around.” wtf are you talking about? would you prefer a market “run” for those without any money? sounds like a pretty small market. sounds like no market. you continue to spout jibberish that has no value…

If you really believe that, then you need to convince the authorities - who just knocked on the door of the son of a Democrat Representative in Congress. 93rd District, Memphis Tenn.
Let’s allow the investigation to play out. FBI and Secret Service I’m sure are capable of figuring this one out.

I know, independent thought is a difficult thing for you, but please, try to keep up.
Arrogant, shortsighted pricks like you are the reason this whole country fucked up in the first place.
Tell me again, other than sounding like you know what you’re talking about, why the hell I should listen to your theories regarding how to save the economy.
Never mind, you’re better suited to regurgitating numbers instead of using your imagination. Boring… Painfully boring.

let’s forget taxes and let the country’s infrastructure collapse!
