NYC cab slams Hoboken apartment

August
8/28/2008:
Shortly after midnight, a NYC cabbie jumped the curb and crashed into an apartment on the corner of 3rd Park. Apparently no one in the area was hurt, including the driver, who walked away unscathed.
Hoboken411 reader Nina Zakharenko sent the pictures in.

A few more after the jump…

Would it be great if it’s the Cash Cab?

Building 1, taxi 0. It doesn’t even look like there’s a scratch on the building. The taxi, however, DID kick the fence’s ass.

Good old fashioned brick construction from the turn of the century. Can’t beat it.

Impressive, did not hit the bldg on the corner, but rather the between the 2nd and 3rd bldgs from the corner. Was this the same driver that drove the Jeep into the giant sinkhole?

Again, how does something like this happen? Judging by the fact that he was able to jump the curb and destroy his car against a building, most likely cabbie was speeding down the street, for whatever reason something he wasn’t expecting came in his way, and he swerved and lost control. If only there was some sort of governing body, almost a type of “policing authority” which could be used to enforce reasonable speeds on our streets. Any ideas?

This happened across the street from me. I have no idea how the guy managed to do this. None.
Loved the jackhammering at 8 AM this morning too.

How did he manage NOT to hit a parked car??? I don’t see any garage doors and we all know people park to the corner late at night. Give this guy a medal!

My money is on a pedestrian jumping out between cars and the taxi was trying to avoid it. It’s either that or there is a truck ghost going around bumping cars or police carts off the road.

If I were driving through Hoboken at a reasonable speed, and a pedestrian jumped out in front of my car, I would either (a) slam on the brakes or (b) swerve out of the way. If I did swerve, I certainly would not be able to jump the curb at the speed I typically drive, nor would I hit anything hard enough to total my car.

I can’t imagine someone driving all that fast on Park. He’d have had to stop/pause before crossing Third, and since Fourth is a dead-end into Church Square Park …
… then again, it WAS an NYC cab driver.

At least now he can get a job at Rapido Taxi! He was trolling for fares in Hoboken and not paying any attention when he swerved to avoid a car that blew the stop sign.
