Lost: Canon Rebel XT

8/14/2008:

Did you find a nice Canon digital SLR downtown on Tuesday? Small reward if you did!

Poor student is absent-minded

“Two days ago on the 12th, I lost a green messenger bag with a Canon Rebel XT and two Canon lenses inside. I either misplaced it at Pier A Park or at the PATH station nearby. I’m a poor art student who cannot afford to replace the lost items, please help.”

I told him to check with the Hoboken Police to see if they had it (he filed a report).

In my opinion, if you can’t remember whether you misplaced your camera at the park or on the PATH, then perhaps it wasn’t that important? That equipment is pretty costly! Was he drunk?
Fun game… How about if they had GPS and took snapshots every 10 seconds or so to capture the person who now has the camera and sends the images via Wi-Fi to your email address?
That would drain the battery pretty darn quick. I doubt the charge would last through half the day.

The camera’s serial number appears in the EXIF data of photos posted to flickr. They can always try to search that way.
There should be a feature on all expensive SLR cameras where if you loose it, or someone steals it, the camera will be programed to make people look 100 fatter, or place a large “F.U.!” watermark over the images.
Absolutely the best answer I’ve read in months, hands down! Hilarious!

Even though it is not built in to a camera, this device captures the capabilities you seem to be speaking of:
