Thanks to everyone on this thread for the help yesterday….yup the critter is a bed bug but luckily I noticed right away and am being exterminated tomorrow. It appears the problem was caught early so should be easily rectified. So disgusting..

One other thing that will be very helpful. If the problem is rectified, go to bed, bath & beyond and pick yourself up a zippered plastic matress cover. They come in a variety of sizes for a cost of about $20. You won’t have to worry again.

I initially thought it was a tick red colored but small 3/10th of an inch. The size of the bug and the bites I have been getting are making me think its more than just a random tick…

Thanks I can be hopeful 🙂 if not will give 4 Seasons a call. So strange because I do check my bed for them no idea where “it” came from but I know if there is one there is more than one. How did my poor sofa get this problem? My neighbors travel alot….not that I am blaming them as they could have come from my last trip.

those critters are quite resilient and travel well. If they’re in the sofa, you may have brought one in on your clothes and then it migrated when you sat. On the upside, they’re really slow and easily — and satisfyingly — squishable. 🙂 We didn’t have ’em Hobo, but when we moved up to UC last Sept the new apt had em. We wasted months battling with the landlord (Hobo based mind you) to take care of it and trying to deal with it ourselves (squishing mostly). When Jersey passed the new legislation Springtime mentioned earlier, we checked Hobo411 for exterminators and went with 4 Seasons based on the reviews. They were great. Good luck!

Sorry, SPG, I didn’t realize you own your place. In any case, I do highly recommend 4 Seasons. I really wish you the best of luck. It sucks! If you have a specimen, keep it to show the exterminators. I’ll cross my fingers for you that the bugs are something else.
