5K Run Against Crime and Drugs

The race is underway!
Was walking my dog when I realized that tonight was the “5k run against bad stuff!”
Snapped a few pictures of those that were helping out, such as the Hoboken Fire department, Stevens Police and Public Safety Director Bill Bergin. This was along Sinatra Drive near Maxwell place was the one and only water pit-stop along the route.
Bergin said that the attendance for this years run may possibly break the all time record, as over 500 runners pre-registered, and an astonishingly long line to sign up down near Pier A Park.

8/4/2008:
Tonight at 7pm is the 17th Annual Hoboken Police 5k Run/walk against crime and drugs. Begins at Pier A Park, and runs up and down along the eastern edge of town.
Each year, they choose a different charity for the money raised. They raised $12,000 for Hoboken High School’s EMT squad last year. This year, money will go to the Hoboken American Legion Post 107, helping disabled veterans in Hoboken in a multitude of ways, such as the Adopt a Soldier Program and the Thank a Vet Program.

Keep in mind Sinatra drive and parts of 15th St. by the Hudson Tea Building will be closed for a couple hours this evening.
I may have met my quota of “how interesting can you make a standard 5K year after year?” already, so here’s last year’s quick video I whipped together:

Since online registration is now closed…does anyone know if you can register in person and join in on the run tonight before the race? I’d love to run this and just found out it was tonight.

you can always register at these things in person, i think i am running this one, i’m not sure yet. i ran it last year. it’s just that same up and back course.

all you need is the 20 bucks (or however much it is) you can get your number and pins, etc there –they usually give you a bag stuff, probably a tshirt, too

Yes. The kids pass the same certification as anyone else joining an EMT unit and go on local calls. Someone donated an ambulance to them about a year or two ago.

I ran this last night and it was a blast!
Club KO had a HUGE presence there.
Where were all the club H staff members? I didn’t see any paticipating in this…weird.
Does anyone know when there is another 5k in Hoboken?

yellowsubmarine is referring to the HOHA 5-miler, which is usually on Mother’s Day weekend each year.
