Elysian Park Lake

8/9/2008:

I’m personally getting a bit tired of hearing “there’s no money” to properly maintain the city.

Besides Elysian Park being practically in the dark already (half the lamps are broken), now Hoboken residents are treated to a nice (disgusting) “LAKE” in the dog run each time it rains. Emails to the Hoboken Dog Association went unanswered, and 2nd Ward Councilwoman Beth Mason says there’s nothing she can do about it (i.e., budget constraints).

Roads, sidewalks, and now parks are going down the toilet. Way to go, Mayor Roberts!

ST-you are so much blindly smarter than me I can hardly see. I’m glad you are leaving the MENSA meeting. Just remember, democracy isn’t just about the rights of society as a whole, but also the rights of individuals that make up our communities. Yes, the majority rules in most cases. A vote is an opinion, no one is arguing that. What the salient point is, that you continually miss, is that you are not the only one with INTERESTS. Other taxpayers have INTERESTS too. A dog park might not serve the majority, but it does serve a group of individuals in the community, many of whom pay taxes just like you. A government has to serve the general good; or is it your opinion that every tax issue be brought to a referendum. If you don’t see the general good of not having dogs running throughout the park, I can’t help you . . .

of course it is based on opinion. AAAAARG! brady…did i not say that there is an “argument” that pitbulls should not be on public streets? i didn’t say “the fact is, pitbulls should not be on public streets”…right? irish, anyting you vote on, like use of tax dollars is based on opinions…a VOTE is an opinion. i can’t keep doing this. are you guys 12? this mensa meeting is about over.
Easy Whitney, the point of I was making is that you can’t determine how parkland is used based solely on whether or not it benefits “society as a whole.”
Hee, Whitney. Crack is whack!!

And if the majority of people feel the dog runs are important, then you’re right, they’ll stay and be maintained by tax dollars.

As moephab pointed out, they’re in such disrepair it seems that no money, not even the licensing fees, are going towards upkeep. So the point is moot.

And imo, those licensing fees should be used 100% for dog related perks (like the dog runs and anything else that is out there for the pups).
