Bob’s Discount Furniture

8/8/2008:
Have you seen the Bob’s Discount Furniture commercials on TV?
They might possibly be some of the worst productions ever! However, it appears that regardless of the cheesiness of the commercials, maybe Bob sells good stuff? Have any of you purchased items from their stores?
Here’s a picture of a Bob’s truck delivering some furniture in Hoboken:
Oh, there was a fairly funny audio clip of a comedy routine that featured Bob’s Discount Furniture on MySpace, but it had been deleted. So you can read about how Bob’s pissed someone off at RipOffReport instead.

i’ve been in the store, and thought i didn’t purchase anything, there’s certainly nothing wrong with the looks of it.
i can’t vouch for quality though obviously.

I bought two Bob-o-pedics about 8 months ago. Love ‘em, recommended. No problems at the store or with the delivery.

WAY long ago I bought a living room set from them. Black futon, gold and glass coffee table, end tables, lamps, too, maybe? Quality was okay, I guess a step up from Ikea, and well worth the price. It’s just that all their styles are butt-ugly, thought I am SURE it appeals to some old-school older types.
If Ikea had been around then, I would have trekked there instead. Unless I was buying a mattress, Bob-o-pedic sounds good to me.

I haven’t been to their store but looked at their web site, their style is way too oldschool for me. For those looking to upgrade from IKEA, there are MANY furniture stores located around 18rd and 7th ave btw. West Elm, Design Within Reach, Jennifer, Raymore and Flanigan, Door Store, etc… etc… They all charge you NJ tax and anyway have their warehouses in good old jersey, so you can get your furniture delivered in days, not weeks.

I was always curious how a Bob-o-pedic was. How much do they cost?

ugggh. i hate Ikea. overpriced wood that you have to put together yourself, with missing pieces 70% of the time. what scam.
as for bob’s prices, they are very reasonable on a lot of pieces, and their sales are awesome.
i went with raymour and flannigan for my living room furniture. bought coffee and end tables from an antique collector for pretty cheap, and my bedroom set is what i consider a “starter set” (wood veneer) from Levitz.
my ikea desk is the only ikea furniture that has lasted, everything else went out the window ASAP. those were the biggest mistakes i’ve made in furniture purchases.

Anyone remember those Jason’s furniture ads from a few years back?
“Hey, where’d everybody go?”
“Jason’s furniture on route 35 in ocean”
Simply a horrible piece of advertising crap.

I’m also curious about the Bob-o-Pedic…good to hear someone has had a good experience with it. I need to check it out.

monk, pricing at http://shop.mybobs.com/Bob_O_Pedic.aspx although I know I paid less.
Celestial is the pillow top, I sleep on it everyday and my sleep has improved. It’s kinda soft (even in firm) and you sink in. When you get used to it’s great. I’ve got a Bob-O-Pedic Collection, the standard bed, in the guest room, also firm, it’s more like a traditional bed but also great to sleep on.

It may be horrible, but it did it’s job. Years later you still recall the ad.

but just recalling a rorrible ad doesn’t drum up any business. i have never been there. I mean, i am a mets fan so I am bombarded with Giuseppe Franco ads on a nightly basis, but I am not running out to buy procede. It’s not a daily regimine or twice daily regimine, who has time for that nonsense?

I bought a couch and oversized recliner from Bob’s a couple months ago, leather set for $1100 including delivery… I had been shopping around quite a bit and was really impressed with Bob’s prices. Delivery was also very efficient, they call you with an automated message giving you the time. The guys were efficient and had a bit of trouble getting the couch in my door but kept at it. They also brought my old couch downstairs and I had to chase them down to give them a tip!

My parents bought a Bob-O-Pedic. For a queen (w/ split foundation), two free pillows and delivery, it came to a little under $1300.
They love it. I love it! The dogs love it. I know when I am in the market for a new mattress; I will be buying a Bob-o-Pedic.
On an interesting note, the mattress does sorta smell for a few weeks. They advised my family to not cover it with any sheets for at least a week. I thought that was kinda weird, because where would they sleep?
Did some research on this though and apparently all “Pedic” beds smell bad for the first few months…

I grew up just north of Hartford, CT, where Bob’s Furniture originated, and can tell you that the current ads are of a MUCH higher quality than his original campaigns. What’s always struck me is that he’s done these Dave Thomas/Lee Iaccoca-style testimonal ads since the beginning, which even as a kid seemed odd since he comes across as so creepy.

We bought a 3 piece sofa set that reclines in every seat except for the middle seat of the big sofa. The quality is pretty good and we got the 5 year protection plan. The sofa is so comfortable we have each slept on it. The prices are pretty reasonable and it’s a very good first step up from a futon. We also shopped at Ashley and we liked Bob’s more. Oh yeah, they have good chocolate chip cookies at the store.

I’ve been to the one on Route 46 — they have at least 10-15 of those spikey-haired Gotti meathead guys working the showroom. I guess this is what they do during the off-season when not lifting weights in the front yard of their Belmar beach house.
“Yo bro, dat end table is sick, you should totally get it.”

I agree that the overall style can be summed up as farty, but the Bob-o-pedic is a quality mattress.

I don’t know why you need to shop for furniture at all when you can get everything you need on moving day at the end of the month right here in charming Hoboken. I saw a Hobopedic on the corner just the other day.
