Reader Mail: City vehicle far away!

7/12/2008 Update:
Here’s a clearer shot of the vehicle. It does appear to be a transport van and not a cargo van.

7/10/2008:
One Hoboken411 reader thought it was odd to see a city vehicle all the way out in Summit, NJ yesterday!
Do you think this van was being used for personal or city use? Either way, it’s nice to know that even outside of Hoboken, residents are keeping their eyes open!
“My husband was driving home from work this evening along Route 24 when he spotted the Hoboken Board of Ed school vehicle near Summit, NJ. The picture is not too clear since it was taken from a cell phone, but the license plate number was 728U-52. He followed the van all the way back to Hoboken.”

(FYI, I don’t recall seeing a grey van like that in Hoboken, and since the picture is low quality, take it for what it’s worth… but I’ll give the reader the benefit of the doubt nonetheless.)
Hoboken, city vehicle, Board of Education, Summit NJ

read the article, my husband was driving home when he witnessed the city vehicle or whatever it said, but she stated he was driving and took the picture….what is his plate, lets get him a violation….

The cell phone law is for talking and texting. Not sure it says anything about taking pictures. Also, what if the picture was taken with a regular camera? No law for that, genius.

Maybe the van was being driven to Summit to be returned to the rental agency. Or it may be that it needed repairs, and the contracted repair shop is in Summit or near there.
Perhaps a call to the BOE would solve all the mystery.

Well….. I live in Summit, and while not knowing anything about this van, there is a facility here that works on modified official vehicles like ambulances, police cars etc. We see out of town official vehicles there all the time.

SummitGuy,
Unless Vickery expanded his business recently, his shop only handles EMS vehicles, not school buses.

Not to defend these boobs, there is a dealer in the summit that deals with fleet vehicles. I think the name is warnock he sells police cars and all types of vehicles that towns use. It might have been in for warranty work.

I agree with Biffy I am also glad I have a life, but this is the most hysterical thread I have read on this site. Who ever took this pic and took time to write 411 really must not have any other thing else going on in their life but to wake up every morning and have the city of Hoboken solely on their mind. Get a pet or something….

Perhaps this post was a bit of a stretch, but kudos to 411 or following up with a clear photo of the vehicle so we can all draw our own conclusion.

if it was with a regular camera (which the article clearly stated cell phone), then the driver should simply get reckless driving, which is a law, genius.
i’m one of the people that is disgusted by insurance in this state, so anything that would reduce that without significantly limiting my rights (though we have few as drivers) is fine with me!
