Minor PATH derailment

7/9/2008 11:51pm Update:

Earlier, officials were worried if the PATH service might resume in time for the morning commute. Looks like you’ll be ok!

“Concerning the earlier track condition problem, All Path train service is resuming normal schedule.”

7/9/2008 6:45pm Update:

Hoboken411 reader Kooky Kat called me to say she was walking back from the Pavonia Newport stations, as that was as far as they could go, and another 411 reader sent this recount as to what the scene was waiting for the over-crowded light rail train back to Hoboken:

“I’m standing at the Pavonia/Newport HBLR station (along with God knows how many other people right now) waiting for the next train to Hoboken. I was standing on the Hoboken train at 33rd for about ten minutes before they announced all service to Hoboken was suspended and told us to take the Journal Square train and transfer here at Pavonia/Newport. The train I took from 33rd went local to 14th and then express to Pavonia/Newport because of overcrowding. Now the HBLR is hardly keeping up with the demand, trains are already full, and people standing on the tracks make it difficult for the driver to get up to the station. It’s another fun commute home…”

7/9/2008 6:15pm:

Just woke up from a 20 minute mini-power nap to hear something on the Live Hoboken Police and Fire Scanner about a derailment (“Track 3”) downtown, and for Hoboken units to head down there “just in case.”

At the same time, received the usual PATH Alerts:

“Hoboken to 33rd Street line is suspended. Due to a car equipment problem, train service on the Hoboken to World Trade Center line is suspended.”

Hope everyone is OK.

You know what’s NOT cool? Being on brokedown bus LAST week on the hottest m-fing day, but on brokedown Path this week on the hottest m-fing day! The universe is out to get me!

Unless you live right by the PATH, I am not sure why anyone wouldn’t choose to walk back to Hoboken rather than wait for the lightrail. I was on the train fairly early, and I knew that the LR was going to be PACKED so I just walked. It takes about 30 mins, depending on how fast you walk, and what part of town you live in.

Cheers to a safe and quick commute home this evening! PLEASE!!! P.S. I am leaving the office at 5:00 today, if you want to insure that you won’t be stuck somewhere again, I suggest you leave before me! 🙂

SUV stroller lady should have figured it out on her own. Got to wonder how some people come to regard social cooperation as optional.

i must say that i told people where to go and how to get to hoboken on every stop.i made it loud and clear as i could but for the love of god people please take the head phones out of your ears when there is a problem with the trains.most people who never got on the train had headphones in and were not paying attention.btw to the lady with the suv stroller who was trying to ram her way into a pack train don’t be pissed because i told you to fold it or stay off the train

Yes,took the ferry home. Never done that before. Very nice,
hardly anyone on it. I had to ask the ticket taker if it was the ferry to Hoboken, and he looked at me like I was some kind of idiot.
