Bring back Mola?

6/24/2008:

Here’s a letter from a reader who’d like Mola Coffee to come back!

As you might recall, it changed from Mola to Emack & Bolio’s, and is “rumored” to become a “Pinkberry” (not sure if that’s still true.)

So if you really felt a pit in your stomach when they closed, read on. Otherwise, carry on with your day.

Mola Petition

“Hi 411,

I love the site. Very informative. I can tell this is your passion and you are truly dedicated to a better Hoboken. Thanks for all that you do (including your thankless work with the monkey population).

A petition has started to re-open Mola coffee at 517 Washington. For those of you who enjoyed the Mola experience, and even getting a daily berating from Eli the barista, please consider sending an email to the following address: bringbackmola@gmail.com

It can be as long or as brief as you’d like. As we know from this site, there IS power in numbers. Right now it sits sad and dormant (like our Mayor). Please won’t you give back to the caffeine experience that has given back to you? (soo Sally Struthers, I know).

Ok, so please email bringbackmola@gmail.com and send a message that we want Mola Coffee and Eli back where they belong!

Thank you.

A Mola appreciator.

Thanks for clearing that up RG ….

Speaking strictly for myself I’m a big fan of good coffee and those who provide it. But with high rents on Washington Street I wonder how anybody short of a super high turnover place (Dunkin Donuts) or someone who owns the building can make money.

Sounds like Eli should look for greener pastures!!!

and that’s why I signed the petition, because it’s what he wants.

RG, it’s not for me to say. It’s his life, and as his friend, I support his choices, whatever they are.
Hey RG this Eli character clearly has negative business acumen. The last thing he should be doing is running a small business. If half of what you say is true he should get a job with the post office and sell stamps!!! No financial management decisions required. How can you screw up selling coffee???? The margins are higher than any other legal product. Please talk about a waste of time!!!! Why didn’t this character offer coupons like Kings….give the loyal customer a break that’s the way to get returning customers!!!! Chop!Chop!
honcho- You are right in that it is hard to screw up coffee but keep in mind Eli is not the owner. Before the owner of Emack and Bolio took over Mola it was making money, maybe not a fortune but still in the black. The new owner tried to make it an ice cream parlor and keep the coffee. In the process he screwed up the coffee side of the business royally and the ice cream just sat in the freezer. The owners name is John and Eli was just a worker there as well as when it was owned by the owners of Mola. Eli has quite a following for coffee and for the most part was good for business. I am sure that if someone took over the place and wanted to run it as a coffee shop with Eli as manager that would probably work after they fixed the place up a bit.… Read more »
