Monroe Center problems

6/20/2008:

Why is the Monroe Center constantly riddled with problems?

For the past two years, I’ve heard nothing but complaints coming from tenants of the Monroe Center. Problems with management, false promises, in-fighting and bad karma pretty much sets the tone for the latest development for this troubled site.

Yesterday, most tenants arrived to their studios at the plagued “artists community” to find that they had no electricity. As one reader wrote: “It turns out that the morons who own/run the Monroe Center for the Arts haven’t paid their bill and are $57,000 behind to PSE&G.”

It’s also rumored that they haven’t paid their workers in almost two months!

One business, The Cheese Store, was supposedly the only one with power, as they were apparently the first tenant to be billed by PSE&G directly.

What’s the deal with this place?

When you parked there, you see that their lot is not elevated. The entire area is a flood plain. How are they responsible for it, exactly?
What part of town is not a flood plain or federally designated flood zone?
Most of Hudson Street & Washington Street, and Castle Point Terrace
