Hoboken411 reader “Freewheelin” felt the need to share this “typical Hoboken story” with us today:
No turn on red (unless you know the cop)
“Typical Hoboken story.
A big black SUV is all the way past the crosswalk on 1st Street by City Hall and Washington. Cop pulls up right behind him as he ignores the no turn on red sign and turns right onto Washington. Cop puts on his lights and siren and pulls the SUV over in front of City Hall.
Cop gets out of his car and walks over to the SUV. Recognizes the driver. “Hey, how ya doin’?!” says the cop. Both flash big smiles and laugh. Cop walks back to his car and drives away.
In Hoboken, it’s all about who you know.”

I should add that for the record I’m NOT a person who thinks that folks should get get out of jail free cards. I think you break the law you pay the price.
My POINT was (and I suppose I didn’t make myself very clear) that I’m agreeing with it’s all about who you know or who you are related to.
Not one single person on this board is related to or knows a cop and has dropped a name to get out of trouble?
Not one person here has a PBA sticker on their car or has a PBA card in their wallet?
I’m NOT SAYING IT’S RIGHT OR ACCEPTABLE and I’ve never ever used my card and don’t even carry it (I’m not even sure I know where it is) but I find it VERY hard to believe that this board is completely innocent of name or power dropping.
Before you all cut off my head know that I’m just asking a question and I AGREE WITH YOU GUYS about it being an abuse of power and something that needs to change.

no it doesn’t. it may be common in little back woods towns where boss hog controls the strip club and his simpleton nephew is sheriff, but we are a city of well educated people with alot of media. it isn’t SUPPOSED to happen here.

This is one of those NEW screen names you just mentioned on another thread. They will post 1 or 2 times, maybe more & then disappear for weeks/months while they post under their other aliases.

You have every right to disagree with Hoboken_South and every right to express that disagreement, but this garbage about this person being a “paid blogger”, etc is just dumb from the point of view of someone who has been watching this discourse over the past few days.
I have news for you… there are a LOT of people in Hoboken who think like Hoboken_South. Am I one of them? Obviously not. But that doesn’t mean I have the right to get all lynch mob and try to chase them off the board.
Rise to the occasion and debate the issues. Simply dismissing and harassing a poster like this just plays into the “Yuppie know-it-all New Yorker outsider” stereotype that many Hobokenites have about people who post here.
Chill out. This person is for real. Not the Mayor’s blogger. Not a shill. Just a person with a different view, which is a lot more interesting than a monolithic community.
