Reader Mail: Local Wedding Advice?

6/9/2008:

Today, we have a Hoboken411 reader who’s getting married in Jersey City in a few months, and wonders if any of you could share some tips about good local wedding services companies.

“I am getting married up here this fall, and I need some help. I was hoping that some of your readers were also married in the area and might be able to provide some suggestions. Here’s what I’m looking for:

  • A limo company that is reliable and not over priced.
  • Someone for hair and makeup on the wedding day. I would rather have someone come to the Hyatt Hotel the day of the wedding (even if it was just for make-up).
  • A good place for tuxedos.
  • Quality wedding invitations.

I already have a photographer and a florist.

Any reliable recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you!!!”

So what do you say?

As to your comment about everyone paying for their own weddings – my 28 yr old sister & her 28 yr old fiance are getting married in Nassau County. It’s going to cost a bundle, but my parents are footing the bill for the wedding and his parents are paying for the rehearsal dinner (wedding party of 18 + a jr bridesmaid & flower girl, so they and their parents will also be there). It’s going to be incredibly nice and large, as his family is extremely large and local. By large, I’m talking they wanted to invite 300 of their own guests (which they did for his sister’s wedding this weekend). So while some people’s parents aren’t footing it, traditionalists do still exist. And the way my parents took care of keeping the wedding affordable was giving his parents a limit of 125 guests and stating that they would just have to cut off at a certain level of cousin (my parents are also cut off at 125). But 250 was what they could afford to do nicely, and rather than have a shabby 450 person wedding, they figured 250 would be the cutoff. Now, when I said something about the cheapest tackiest invites, I literally meant just that. If you got your invites and they… Read more »
