Need for Speed Relay
Resident and Hoboken411 reader “Yoda” is participating in tomorrow’s Need for Speed Relay against Domestic Violence. He’s almost at his goal, and only 5% away. Why not help push him over the finish line?
Help stop domestic violence
Every day, women and children who are victims of domestic abuse wish they could run for their lives. Most often, they can’t, which is why I’ve accepted the challenge to run for them. On June 8, 2008 I’ll be running in the Need For Speed Relay Against Domestic Violence as part of a team whose goal is to raise funds to help end the cycle of abuse. And, I need your support.
For the second consecutive year, I’m the captain of a team called Yoda’s Harriers and on Sunday, June 8th our 9 runners will take to the trails, paths and roads of Westchester county to run a total of 53 miles, and raise funds and awareness. I’m excited about participating in this race because I know it will make a real difference to the millions of women and children who are victims of domestic violence.
I’d love for you to join me in supporting this important cause, either by coming up to cheer us on, by donating money or both. Last year our team was one of the top fundraisers with over $7,000 in donations. This year we aim to exceed that mark by raising over $12,000!!!
Donating is easy, just click on the following link to reach my page and donate online:
You can make a donation in less time than it takes you to read this message. If you prefer, you can mail your tax-deductible contribution to the address listed below. Any financial support you could give would make a difference to the 10 million children who witness some form of domestic violence each year. Funds raised will support an Avon Foundation grant to the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation for a Margaret’s Place program, which provides middle and high school students with a safe place in their school where they can learn from a trained counselor how to overcome the cycle of domestic and teen dating violence.
If you’re interested in coming out to cheer us on, we’d love to have you! The Finish Line Celebration is probably the best place to be. It’s at New Roc City in downtown New Rochelle. There will be music, refreshments and an overall good atmosphere. We recommend you arrive at the Finish Line anytime after 1:30pm. We haven’t been given our start time yet, so it’s hard to estimate our team’s finish time, but we can give you an update as race day approaches. Easiest way to get there is to take the Metro North train to New Rochelle. You can also consider cheering us on earlier in the race at one of the exchange areas. Easiest one to access would be North White Plains train station, again, by taking Metro North. Again, we can give you a better estimate of our arrival time there closer to race day.
I greatly appreciate your support and will keep you posted on my progress.
