Friday flooding possible in Hoboken

5/8/2008:
Forecasters Seem to think we have almost IMMINENT FLOODING in store for tomorrow!
I’ll be “away from the office,” on my way to the Van Halen concert, so charge your camera batteries tonight, and send any flood photos to Hoboken411@gmail.com (along with any wacky observations you might have.) I’ll post them when I hit a Wi-Fi spot or whatever.
For new residents in Hoboken, check out a good example of what happens during a hearty rain storm in town: http://hoboken411.com/archives/6534
Note: We may get a bit lucky, as high tide is a bit past noon tomorrow, with a higher tide a bit past midnight. That’s about all the encouraging news I could find.

Flood Watch (as of 6pm Thursday)
HEAVY RAIN ON FRIDAY WILL LIKELY CAUSE FLOODING…
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM MOVING EAST FROM THE OHIO VALLEY WILL PASS JUST TO THE SOUTH OF THE REGION. RAIN WILL OVERSPREAD THE REGION FORM SOUTHWEST TO NORTHEAST AHEAD OF THE SYSTEM AROUND SUNRISE. THE RAIN WILL BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES BY MID MORNING AND CONTINUE INTO THE AFTERNOON. 2 TO 3 INCHES OF RAINFALL ARE EXPECTED (WITH LOCALIZED HIGHER AMOUNTS) BY THE TIME THE RAIN ENDS FRIDAY EVENING.
SIGNIFICANT URBAN AND SMALL STREAM FLOODING IS POSSIBLE IN THE WATCH AREA BASED ON CURRENT FORECASTS.
YOU SHOULD MONITOR LATER FORECASTS AND BE ALERT FOR POSSIBLE FLOOD WARNINGS. THOSE LIVING IN AREAS PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD BE PREPARED TO TAKE ACTION SHOULD FLOODING DEVELOP.
RESIDENTS WITH BASEMENTS THAT ARE PRONE TO FLOODING SHOULD TAKE ACTION AT THIS TIME TO PROTECT PROPERTY.

However, the hourly rain forecast at the moment indicates rain till 1am saturday.. still might be an issue… ?

:( I hate living on pins and needles all summer.

:( I hate my Verizon phone service always going out whenever it rains. It is useless to call their customer “service” department.

plaintruthiness i had the same issue with Verizon …..madding till i called the board of public utilities to complain after nearly losing my mind dealing with customer service at Verizon
http://www.bpu.state.nj.us/
then Verizon got on it quick sending a super tech, not the usual guys, that solve the hard problems…. turns out when it rained the water was pooling in a sleeve like thing on the wires up on the pole causing the wires to cross then short ….they fixed hasnt been a problem since …. hope this helps

Yesterday, they were calling for 2-3 inches of rain (2.59″ to be exact)… however, the rain forecast amount has changed to a lower 1.78″, as it seems the heavier amounts of precipitation is occurring to our south and east:
Hoboken might not be as bad as it can be…

You need a good 1/2″+ an hour for it be anything good. We are only at a high of .07 inch per hour

looks like a dud today as most of the big stuff is off shore. but the spring season still has a while to go
As a point of reference. If you take a peak at April 15, 2007 storm we hit like 3/4″ an inch per hour and were close to or over .5 inch for 4 hours, from from around 2pm to 6pm.

We also had that mini flood June 12th, when we had the 4th ward elections or re-elections. We hit .5 inch per hour then too.

that plus the right tide seems to be the magic number
