Hoboken snow showers in May?

5/5/2008:

Here’s a letter from Hoboken411 reader Lauren, who talks about inconsiderate construction going on in town…

(Artificial) Snow in Hoboken

“Just thought the readers of Hoboken411 would be interested in seeing some snow in May.

These pictures were taken on the corner of Paterson Ave and Harrison St. There is new construction and they are using Styrofoam for the siding. They are shearing the foam and the pieces are falling everywhere. Wind has blown them into our foyer and into a little park where our dogs play. It is absolutely disgusting!

I called the wonderful police and the cop could not understand why I was complaining. To them it seems like construction sites are allowed to make such messes.

Love your site!”

That’s not the point, the point is to force the contractors to pay minimum wage at least, and then Americans (particularly your h.s. and college seasonal employees) will take the damn jobs AND pay taxes (assuming they make enough to have to pay federal taxes). Anyone who thinks the G.C. on these jobs isn’t skimming the extra profits into their own pockets when using illegal underpaid workers is clueless.

If you know they’re illegals, a good way to make them scatter is to have someone in a suit (preferably a uniform) yelling: “Quién tiene una tarjeta verde” – they’ll scatter.
This is a legitimate grievance. What is a person supposed to do if this happens? There are dozens of developers all around town who don’t give a ratsass about anything besides making a buck. If you can’t complain to Al (b/c he’s “aThe contractors are polluting and endangering the soilway”), what are you supposed to do?

Also, if you look at the damage done, I agree that it isn’t merely cosmetic, but potentially harmful to the soil.
HomeTeam – call ICE (formerly INS) and report the site for illegals.
Yes, put some poor guy out of work.

Nice job.
Yeah, a guy who is illegally here and not paying taxes.

They were at it again this morning… I have about an inch of foam on my patio now. They did freak when I started taking video.

They did throw down part of the blueprints yesterday. I’ll save those.
