Artist’s Statement:
My art is inspired by my emotions and my own life experience and perceptions. I am also always trying to change my perspective of life which is why my style often changes. My mood drives me more than anything. Many of my paintings provide a new experience each time they are viewed. I want people to have a relationship with my paintings whether it be a fling or an affair.
My process is aggressive and impatient in the beginning and precise and detail-oriented in the end. When I get an idea, I want to put it down right away and therefore I usually head straight to the canvas without preliminary sketches. My paintings are also known to change drastically from the beginning to the end, and often there are two or three complete paintings under the final product.
I believe that those who appreciate my art are driven by an emotion in which they can relate. My paintings are never straight to the point and I think that the viewer appreciates being part of the process of interpreting my message.

Very nice work. Wouldn’t mind seeing more postings about local artists…

Thanks to Sarah for breathing fresh life into Hoboken’s cultural landscape. One real downside of our ‘yuppie’ invasion is too many bankers and too few creative individuals. Support our artists and musicians & help keep this town vibrant.

Huh? First of all, she has been around for a while (though I didn’t see her stuff at this year’s festival) so she isn’t at all breathing “fresh life” into Hoboken. Second of all, who do you think buys her art? It certainly isn’t the homeless dudes that hang out down at the shelter. If it weren’t for the yuppies that buy her art (which is very good), she couldn’t afford to pursue per career as an artist.

Yikes nevermind then.

Don’t be so sensitive.
I am pretty confident he was just trying to express a desire for more diversity in the residents. I tend to agree, but I am entitled to my own opinion.
Buying art doesn’t make you creative, though it’s nice that you have an appreciation for it. Especially if you are buying it because you love it in spite of the fact that it won’t go with your couch.

Not sensitive, but he was absolutely off on his post.

I’ve reconsidered my original post and must say that I agree with myself. An artist can certainly continue to breath fresh life into a community over the course of time. And I don’t mean that yuppies are some kind of plague. I mean that a high percentage of young urban professionals such as myself majored in business/accounting/marketing rather than fine arts/ design. Sarah’s been in town a while now, but she is part of a small and shrinking group of Hoboken artists.

No - you have reinterpreted what you said to fit the facts (which you didn’t know when you first made your post).

duh I went to college with Sarah I’m well aware of the facts. Why keep fighting when we’re routing for the same team?

When people start mouthing off on “yuppies” & “condo-dwellers”, it sets my teeth on edge. It is like some folks think the “good old days” when Hoboken was pretty much a rundown slum was a good time. They forget that the money the the “yuppies” bring into town supports the local businesses & the spending of city hall (not refering you you on this particular rant).

yeah I’m with you. I use ‘yuppie’ as short for young urban professional, deragatory connotation applicable only if assumed so by the reader.

I am not a yuppie and I buy art and spend money in town. Who says only yuppies make the world go round. I don’t think anybody has a problem with them spending money but perhaps the attitude some of them might have toward other people not in yuppie positions in life is what turns people off toward them. They aren’t the only people to make up society.

I stopped into MackeyBlue to check out Sarah’s art today. Her art is amazing….such a broad range of talent. If you haven’t seen it yet, you’re missing out! Her latest piece: ‘Nouveau Nude’ is fabulous. BTW to one of the previous posters: Sarah was at the festival…selling her art in a different form on her silk screen t-shirts….very cool.
