Reader Mail: Homeless Intruder?

5/2/2008:

Periodically, a Homeless individual is found to be sleeping in some residential area in Hoboken, such as a hallway, vestibule, under stairs, etc.

One reader has photos and a video of exactly what this incident looks like.

“This guy came into our building, we are not sure how, and slept the night.

He entered at about 1:22 am, a fellow owner found him at 8:20ish sleeping in our halls, woke him up and made him leave. This took place at 77 Jefferson St.”

[quote comment=”81007″]This was sent in by me. Yes it s VERY scary, if you watch the video in total of him entering and exiting there are people coming in and out all around him (I didnt post it all). But the person at the end (who I tried to edit out but could not) comes out MUCH later because the video is motion detecting, notice it is light out all of a sudden. The locks in our building are supposedly pretty tough, but we had them beefed up and a few other measures taken. As for reporting it to the Hoboken Police, that is just about the biggest joke I have heard. If only I could figure out how come these guys have no one monitoring their effectiveness. What gives with this useless police force? I have lived on this block for 8 years and in that time I can recount 1 riot, 1 shooting, countless car break-ins, countless intrusions to the building, and on and on. Once a thief even dropped his id, the useless Hoboken PD thanked me for the info, but did nothing. I went to the guys house with some people and got our stuff back that he stole. I have also towed multiple cars out of our driveway myself (chain and trailer hitch), monitored an abandoned, tireless, windowless SUV at the end of the block for 3 months, and on and on and on. I guess I am saying, do you live in the same… Read more »

He looks like a smurf.

I’m on Jefferson and we had a homeless guy get into our lobby, too – I think it was last fall. He apparently buzzed everyone’s apartment and someone let him in. We found him in the morning sleeping on the floor. We called the police and they came immediately to remove him.

Unless you have a doorman or concierge, this is going to happen.

If a vigilante is needed, I’ll certainly ring up ntableman

Be careful and in these circumstances step out only with at least two friends.
It helps if you have both Smith & Wesson.

He may be “this” or he may be “that”, only he knows what his true intentions were for entering the building. Don’t take any chances unless your last name is Lee, as in “Bruce Lee”. CALL THE POLICE! He could be sought in connection to other serious cases as well!

I think I have seen him hanging around McDonalds asking for money a couple times. He appeared to be homeless to me, and high as a kite.
