Hoboken Perimeter Canal

5/1/2008:

Speaking of flooding, Hoboken resident Joan Abel has a better idea.

Rather than fight the water, embrace it! Take a look at this slideshow showing her concept for “canals” throughout Hoboken instead. It might work, with a little social conditioning, and if people “slowed down” a bit.

Oh yeah, if you ever go to San Antonio, The Menger Hotel is where you want to stay.

For Austin, visit 6th Street – it’s kind of like Hoboken night life in the 1990’s before it got all cleaned up.

It is cool. This is near where I’m from. Went to UT in Austin and would go to the Riverwalk frequently. What’s cool about it is that you get on at any point up river, take the boat down to any point down river, and can go to either side via pedestrian bridge and visit one of the many river bars and restaurants (Tex-Mex!). They always schedule events like from Thursday to Saturday, with Mariachi bands. Thursday is college night, so it’s packed. And, the Alamo is right there. If you’re a shopper, the riverwalk goes right through the Galleria Mall and you walk up the steps to shop. Anyone visiting Texas should go to Austin and San Antonio. But I don’t think this would work in Hoboken.
I like the idea! If done right and 100% all the way, it could be wonderful! Help with runoff, maybe interesting attraction in a park or something. If not done right or with 100% commitment, would totally suck.
More likely, Roberts will hire some designer friend of his to draw up the plans & make some pretty pictures for us to talk about, pay this designer a small fortune and absolutely NOTHING will get accomplished just like with all the promised park space.
