Bow Tie Cinemas Hoboken NJ Movie TimesA new movie opening this weekend at Bow Tie Cinemas is The Transporter Refueled.

This is part of the “Transporter” series which was made popular with top action movie actor Jason Statham. The premise was he was a professional driver who was enlisted to “transport” various valuable cargo. He always got into trouble and chases, with explosions, fighting, shooting, injury and death always occurring. Pretty standard for this genre.

“Frank Martin , a former special-ops mercenary, is now living a less perilous life – or so he thinks – transporting classified packages for questionable people. When Frank’s father (Ray Stevenson) pays him a visit in the south of France, their father-son bonding weekend takes a turn for the worse when Frank is engaged by a cunning femme-fatale, Anna (Loan Chabanol), and her three seductive sidekicks to orchestrate the bank heist of the century. Frank must use his covert expertise and knowledge of fast cars, fast driving and fast women to outrun a sinister Russian kingpin, and worse than that, he is thrust into a dangerous game of chess with a team of gorgeous women out for revenge.”

Apparently people don’t enjoy “change” that much, and the new actor taking Statham’s place (Ed Skrein) is making people unhappy. Really? Were Star Wars fans upset that different actors played Luke Skywalker and Han Solo?

It’s just a movie. Either you will enjoy it – or not. Judging because your “usual” actor is not in it – is kind of superficial and shines a light on your true character. Oh well. Regardless, we probably will never see this move unless it’s given to us as a gift at some point in the future.

“Were Star Wars fans upset that different actors played Luke Skywalker and Han Solo?” – well that never happened (unless you count Luke as a baby at the end of the last prequel!). There’s talk of a ‘young Han Solo’ movie; I’m sure that re-casting will lead to some heated debates among fans. A better comparison might be Star Trek, which re-cast the original series roles for current movies, or things like Batman and James Bond.
