Pedestrian Struck on Washington St.

4/17/2008:

Just as I was heading out the door, I overheard on the Live Hoboken Police and Fire Scanner that yet another pedestrian was struck by auto near City Hall.

I’m a bit speechless, but I’d hate to have this as a “daily feature” on 411…

On another note, are there any rules for bike riders in Hoboken? I have been hit twice and got a blank stare one time and a nice F—U from the other. Are bikers allowed to ride on the sidewalk.

So lemme see if I get this straight, you’ve been hit T W I C E and you still haven’t taken it upon yourself to know the law? Now you’re asking the mayor on a privately owned website to help you figure it out? Hell, if that works, I have a request! Governor Patterson, could you please contact me regarding the notice I received about the $100 I supposedly owe NYS from 2006?

Seriously though, stay off the sidewalk with your bike, and in general you have to follow the rules of the road like any other vehicle. Oh, and be more careful.

Short answer? Yes. Are bikers jerks for doing it? Short answer, yes. Ask for the CC to ban them. Seems like a good idea to me. It is up to the discretion of the municipality on if they will be prohibited from sidewalks or not.

Right, just what we need, more rules 🙄

So my neighbors 5-year old on a tiny bike with training wheels is a “jerk”? News to me, I thought she was just a kid doing what normal kids do.

I saw some commotion out of the corner of my eye and then saw a woman lying on the ground in front of the car. Of course I ran over to help and had someone call 911- it felt like it took forever for an ambulance to arrive but a few police officers did arrive on the scene rther quickly. It looked like the driver was making a right onto Jackson- so I can’t be sure but maybe it had to do with visibility. Hopefully the lady is okay.
Right on Jackson?
Sorry I meant left- this is why I don’t drive!
