Hoboken Little League Opening Day
As Mets broadcaster Bob Murphy used to say, “It’s a beautiful day for Baseball!” That was definitely the case yesterday for Hoboken Little League Opening Day. Following the morning parade and a l-o-n-g delay before the first game in the afternoon, the new season kicked off with the Russo Civic Association team hosting Piccolo’s Cheesesteaks. Piccolo’s had the upper hand with a two-run lead until late in the game when their star (and female!) pitcher had to come off the mound. Russo’s staged a last inning rally that put them over the top with a final score of 4 to backwards F, ummm, make that 4-3.
Apparently there is something wrong with the scoreboard. Check it out. It looks like it might be set for Martian numbers. Hey City Hall! Did anybody up there turn on the scoreboard to see if it was working before opening day? The kids were ready, the coaches were ready, the fans were ready, what’s with the whacked-out scoreboard? It’s a microcosm of our City Government. Fix it!
