Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market 2015
How often do you patronize the Hoboken Farmers’ Markets?
Just a brief reminder that today is one of four Hoboken Farmers Markets each week. (One downtown on Tuesdays, one uptown Thursdays, and two Saturday markets uptown and midtown).
I’m just curious what the “net-net” of all these urban farmers markets are.
For one, most of the time – the cost is at or above what you’ll see in the supermarkets (because overhead to bring it TO you is built into the cost).
I’m sure this turns many average people off, who (without understanding the benefits of locally-produced food – say stuff like “F-that! It’s cheaper even at Kings!”)
Just seems like year after year our markets have tepid attendance. Guess you can’t force people to buy groceries at a set time?
Anyway – get some healthy veggies tonight before you head home.
Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market 2015
Back again is the Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market at 13th & Hudson Streets. A happy event for nearby residents who love picking “Jersey Fresh!”
Hoboken Uptown Farmers Market “Jersey Fresh”
“Sometimes New Jersey’s moniker, ‘The Garden State’ can be a tough sell when you’re wandering through the concrete jungle of Hudson County. The Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market, in conjunction with The Quality of Life Coalition, opens today, June 4th, with proof in the form of strawberries, sweet corn, and those famous Jersey tomatoes. Running through October, the market will be open Thursdays from 2 pm to 7 pm. The convenient location at the corner of 13th & Hudson Streets ensures that residents of uptown Hoboken and beyond will have an opportunity to load up on some freshly picked salad greens for Thursday night’s dinner or a scrumptious peach pie for the weekend barbecue.”
Running through October, the market is open Thursdays from 2pm to 7:00pm.
(Still wonder why they can’t go till 8pm or 9pm for those who work later!)
New for 2015: Poplar Wood Farm!
This year, we are thrilled to welcome organic produce back to our market. Poplar Wood Farm of Port Murray, NJ is committed to chemical-free and non-GMO farming.
They will offer their naturally grown produce and cut flowers each week, along with organic flour and other grains.
The location at the corner of 13th & Hudson Streets ensures that residents of uptown Hoboken and beyond will have an opportunity to load up on some freshly picked salad greens for Thursday night’s dinner or a scrumptious blueberry pie for the weekend barbecue.
Vendors for the 2015 Hoboken Uptown Farmers’ Market
Vendors include Stony Hill Farms of Chester, Gina’s Bakery of Montclair, Hoboken Farms, and customer favorite, Dr. Pickle, who will happily give customers a sample of any of his briny, delicious olives, roasted peppers and pickles, of course!
As a certified “Jersey Fresh” market, the customer can be assured that the fresh produce is grown right here in New Jersey.
On the final Thursday of each month, Hobokenites can bring their dull kitchen knifes to the market, where Neil’s Sharpening Service will revive the blades to full tomato slicing capacity.
As in years past, the market is committed to helping our neighbors in Hoboken who have limited access to fresh fruits and vegetables. At the end of each day, vendors are encouraged to donate leftover produce to the Hoboken Shelter, which is celebrating its thirtieth year of service to our community. Additionally, eligible customers are welcome to use WIC (Women, Infants & Children Program) coupons with participating vendors.
Remember – shopping at a Farmers’ Market is great for the local economy and your health. Now, more than ever, it is important to support the New Jersey economy. Shop Jersey Fresh!
