Hoboken PD hires SWAT party boy
I wasn’t going to bother with this story, but after someone suggested I do, I said why not.
Underage drinking gets you hired by police
Josue Velez (who is now 22) was of over a dozen new recruits added to the Hoboken police force this year. He had accompanied “SWAT”
party-ers officers down to Louisiana in 2005 and 2006 as an “EMT,” but was seen posing with “chicks with guns” and doing shots at bars, and so on.
Why was he hired?
Public Safety director Bill Bergin said that Velez was just a “civilian” during these trips and didn’t violate any regulations, and the PBA president said it’s routine to include an EMT on “missions” such as this in case a team member is injured (or hungover.) Another cop said they didn’t need an EMT, since one SWAT team member was already a certified EMT…
The question here is simple. Why would a person, who essentially did the same things that got nine cops in trouble, get hired? What kind of example is that? You tell me what’s missing here.
