Reader Mail: Construction Parking

4/2/2008:

Today, a Hoboken411 reader wonders why construction workers near the W Hotel get to impede traffic near the site.

“Just wondering if the W Hotel construction workers get special parking privileges. The attached pictures (corner of 3rd and river st) clearly show construction worker vehicles parked behind orange barriers blocking 1/2 of the right hand lane impeding traffic. they have been doing this for over 12 mths. if these are legit parking spots they should be open to all. if not, then these guys should be towed and then have to pay for parking like everyone else. the construction boom has brought a lot of unwanted’s into our town. the workers are crass, rude and disrespectful to the people that live here (try walking by the site with a woman). in addition, they are lousy workers – i personally witnessed a huge bundle of 2×4’s fall from the top of the W (thankfully onto their own site and not into the street) and i saw the concrete pumping pipe burst, spilling crap all over the street and pple’s cars. i like the end product, new bldg’s, upscale hotel, etc, but do we need to put up with these unruly types who abuse our town and residents? tow those cars !!!”
Applied is building the W, and they also own the underground parking garage at 333 River right across the street. Why can’t Applied allow these W workers free parking in their garage while construction is underway?
It’s too far to walk
It makes someone is a “whiner” because they complained about debris raining down from above?
No homeworld. A “degree of whining” refers to the parking issue, not the raining debris issue. The many reported incidents of falling debris off the W are no joke.

“i hate construction, it sucks. but i like the pretty buildings that are the final product!”

of course it’s inconvenient, it slows traffic, etc. but that’s how buildings are put up. the fences are there because of construction site mishaps. if it didn’t fall outside of the site, it’s nothing to worry about. if they are affecting the area outside of the site with debris, different story….call and report it. but nothing would get done really is my guess.
