Third World Hoboken
Yeah, it looks like “Third World Hoboken!”
Yep. I snap quite a few photos of Hoboken each day. 99.9% of them are for our own enjoyment (be on the lookout for our photo gallery one day soon!) But we occasionally like (for about the past 10 years) to share a few snapshots with you guys from time to time (wink). And I thought this picture was quite unique.
It was at the intersection of 7th and Washington Streets (across from the Dunkin’ Donuts). The moment of capture, along with some motion blur and interesting subject matter – made an otherwise ordinary snapshot look like something it wasn’t.
This photo didn’t automatically make me think of Hoboken, but rather a third world country (like Cuba or Haiti). The peeling walls, the bikes and scooters all contributed to this “out of character” shot of Hoboken. But yes, it’s still Hoboken!
Maybe this will inspire the property owner to spruce up their building a little more?
Conceived and launched in 2006, the original Hoboken Photo of the Day category contains thousands of pictures and includes many other subsections, including Drunk Bread Crumbs, HDR Photography, Hoboken Digital Art, and more.
We feel that by photo-documenting the city of Hoboken season after season, “a picture is worth 1000 words,” and can tell a myriad of stories encompassing the good, bad and the ugly contained within the mile-square. Our constantly-evolving way of maintaining a historical archive of memories and sights.
