13 hour street cleaning

3/26/2008:

What we have here, is observant 411 reader Rob who wonders why the street cleaning is a bit confusing on Jefferson St.

If Hoboken can’t get a street sign right, imagine how their records might be?
I’m pretty sure Washington Street is cleaned 365 days a year. The city also picks up Washington Street trash every day of the week. If they didn’t, it would look pretty bad Sunday mornings after all that Saturday night activity in town.

Also, don’t assume Sunday work is automatically “overtime”. Some employees don’t have Monday-Friday work weeks. Maybe there is a little something extra for the holiday (I don’t know), but anyone who has walked “The Avenue” before the sun comes up on a Sunday morning knows street cleaning and trash pickup is an essential city service.
Amen to That!

Why is any street being cleaned on 1) a Sunday, and 2) a holiday?

Beth Mason – please question this at the next meeting when it’s time to vote on claims. Besides, I thought all overtime wasn’t being paid right now. Any clarifications?
How come they were cleaning Washington street Easter morning? Someone needed the triple time and a half holiday pay?
If the city didn’t clean the streets people would send Hoboken411 reader mail complaining that their kid’s Easter bonnet got all dirty after a spring wind blew it into the filthy avenue because the city didn’t do its job. 😛
