Slow morning on H411

3/26/2008:

Getting a late start today, because I’ve spent the last 18 hours doing some serious technical work that most of you wouldn’t understand. If you think you would, I’d love to meet up for a drink so I can ping some ideas off you, seriously.

As a result, I became a little behind schedule today, which rarely happens on 411. 700 consecutive days of “thinking” about Hoboken does have it’s downsides, you know. Like dreaming in email is one example I can cite that really freaks me out. No joke.

Anyway, site updates will be a bit behind this morning (and today), but will still have some fun stuff (I think, at least) to chat about. If I can recover in time, we’ll have a typical busy day here.

I’m also a techie and can probably assist with your DB tuning. Feel free to bounce ideas off me.

Do you know where the bottleneck is? I/O? CPU?

How about applying a bunch of regexs to your input file allow you to consolidate your statistics before passing them off to the analytic software? Transform the URLs into buckets and perform your analysis on each bucket. Would that work?

I have had to deal with IE6-isms on css in the past. So I might be able to offer some advice. I’m not really a LAMP person anymore, but I can still fake it pretty well.

I’m up for a beverage, be it brewed from beans or barley.

The childhood memory has soothed my unfulfilled need for seeing the latest news. It just makes me smile.
But tonight, I will reminisce about looking at a kernel module I wrote and maybe get around to submitting another code patch to Apache. Then, I will giggle at you for using a beta version of WordPress on PHP 4.
Wow, that’s what I call a nerd ego trip. I’m a coder/web guy (though not as self-congratulatory as veggiespam) and LAMP is my bread and butter – I’d be happy to be a sounding board for your tech issues sometime. You have my e-mail address, H411.

And remember – if you’re not dealing with scalability issues, then your website sucks. 🙂
