Horrendous Hoboken Intersections

3/24/2008:

Today’s “traffic” entry comes from a Hoboken411 reader who witnessed this debacle at Willow and 1st last weekend:

“Minivan Driver cut off Cyclist. Yelling match develops with Cyclist running around minivan trying to photograph license plates with iPhone. Minivan Driver comically trying to block photo. Yelling match ensues. “That’s Assault! That’s Assault!”.

I particularly like the graceful dancing as the Driver and Cyclist waltz around the minivan. The homeless guys to the left see this so often it doesn’t even warrant their attention… heh.”

Frankly, when I hear the word “Minivan” I am no longer fair and balanced. I truly believe minivan drivers are the worst nemisis’ on the road today. I can’t explain why, perhaps someone else can chime in.

Re 16: strandtramp: Please, can’t you act out your troll-persona/hag-fixation on The Rant, where it belongs? Add Scold to Hag, if that fuels your jollies. Just take it to The Rant Corner.

If nothing else, out of respect for other posters who might want to address the topic, rather than waste time reading personal sniping.

Also applicable to your post 18., strand. Why do you snidely deride someone who wants to make some concrete effort to address a real quality of life issue here? Even if you might deem it a fruitless effort.

What would you suggest, s.t., to productively address the public safety issues posed in this discussion?

Ditto for Katie_S., re 20. You’re clearly v. smart, with lots of legal resources, & by self-report, you’ve been here awhile as a property owner. How would you address what’s clearly a serious traffic/parking/public safety issue here?

Apologies to all (save for s.t.), for veering off-topic with some of this post. Simply requesting that claptrap be relegated to the area 411 specifically created for it: The Rant Corner.

Well whatever part of Hoboken you live in you know the traffic can be deadly at any time. There are not enough traffic signals controlling flow so cars give little attention to pedestrians. For the most part they like to coast past a stop sign rather then actually STOP!!

Come spring I plan to take my Camera and sit on the corner of Willow and 14th and will take a picture of every illegal moving violation for a series of days. I know I’ll have at least 20 or 30. Then I will send them off to the Hoboken police department and the Mayors office and wait for nothing to change. Why, because nothing will, I now it and I am sure most of you who live here know it to.
Hobo Ken – this is a great idea – but also make sure you send a copy to the Jersey Journal, News 12, and other media in North Jersey. Don’t forget YouTube as well. This way if nothing is done – there may be some embarrassment to our elected officials.
Maybe that will be the only way to get things changed in Hoboken. Get the media involved! 🙂
