Wallace Primary School
3/23/2007 Lockdown:
See some emails from readers below, and note that the High School just evoked early dismissal as a result (not sure.. but why the HS?)
Hi Hoboken411:
Just heard that there was a school lockdown in Hoboken about two hours ago that was instigated by the HPD as a result of a non-custodial parent at the Wallace School trying to abduct their child from the playground.
Scary stuff. It is my understanding that all the schools in Hoboken were ordered into a lockdown but that everything is fine now. Nice to know they had a procedure in place and that it worked well.
Pretty newsworthy and scary. Thought you ought to know. You may have already heard of it on your police scanner.
Keep up the good work! Hoboken loves Hoboken411!
And earlier (when I was dealing with lawyers…)
HI,
The Hoboken Schools were on lockdown today. Very scary!! Did you hear anything on the scanner?

I called the school and they said it was a drill.

Sam, are you a parent of a child there? I would love to get confirmation from one. This is one of those ‘too close to home’ things.

Yes I am.

Even if it’s not a drill, this is not a mass murderer on the loose-it’s a non-custodial parent attempted kidnapping. I’m not saying that’s a good thing, or even less than a bad thing, but what I am saying is that there was 1 child (or 1 family of children) in danger of being kidnapped. This wasn’t a school shooting or anything else. So, try not to overreact Jeni.

Oh thank God.
Were you and the other parents pleased with the results?
Did the children know what was going on? That’s a really scary thing to do with a bunch of kids.

Overall, I don’t think Wallace gets enough credit. It’s highly underrated and is a real asset to this town.

Rocket Scientist Scarlett the parent could have been an abuser or a molester for all we know in this hypothetical situation. Hostages could have been taken. The parent could have had a gun.
I’m not overreacting, just reacting. This had the potential to become something very nasty very quickly.

I’m wondering why the High school was dismissed early because of this drill?

Wouldn’t the school notify the parents if all the parks had to be cleared out for a drill? I’m honestly not sure what the kids let alone what my daughter thought was going on since the phone in her classroom has been broken all year. At the time I called the principal’s office and they told me it was a drill.

As far as I know, it wasn’t a drill at all. I received direct notificaton from my kids’ school about it via email and they certaintly wouldn’t have alarmed us unnecessarily. I’m with JeniJump. These things can get ugly really fast. Glad the HPD was on top of it.

what I heard was that it was a non-custodial parent issue at Wallace. I don’t think the father actually made it on to the property. The mother had called to warn of the threat. Wallace did an amazing job! Only the High School was let out early.

No need to worry, non of you so called Hobokenites send your children to Hoboken schools anyway. You are all to good! Now go back to complaining about water damage in your $2,000.00 slum and parks.

Is nothing off limits for you and your frighteningly incessant need to flame me? You call me trash? Thank God no but holy shit your low. Do you think before you type ever? Sometimes I picture you wringing your hands in delight chuckling like a crazed lunatic while clutching a picture of me and manically repeating “Must flame Jeni”
