Memories from 470 weeks ago – Flashback Hoboken

Here’s another entry for the Flashback Hoboken time capsule category. What gems did we come up with this week?

Remember Fabco Shoes?

Fabco Shoes was a decent place for el-cheapo shoes that you didn’t have to care about. I recall buying some winter boots there that I might actually still have!

It’s now a Starbucks where every customer is heads-down updating their social media apps.

Dumpy O’Donoghue’s

O’Donoghue’s remains in my memory as one of the dumpiest places to hang out. My uvula always became swollen due to the perpetually dirty beer taps. Makes me cough just thinking about it.

Changed to Village Pourhouse, and now to Little Town Social.

Lepore’s Chocolates moves

Lepore’s Homemade Chocolates used to be nestled on the corner of Sixth and Garden. Now home to Boutique Realty. Lepore’s moved closer to the avenue and 4th Street.

Hoboken used to be friendly!

Not only did Hoboken have “welcome” signs – but also had signs thanking people for visiting the city.

None of that anymore! Because if a politician’s name can’t be on it – they don’t give two shits! Plus, this takes up valuable room for more cookie-cutter condos!

Thanks for visiting Hoboken Established 1855

You think Donohues was dumpy then? You should have seen the place before they “renovated” it around 1990. I worked on a movie that shot there the summer of 1988. In fact they did a lot of shooting in Hoboken and Jersey City. A little in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Hoboken Parking Utility will not be enforcing on Saturday April 4, 2015. Remember to not feed the meters. They didn’t tell us residents anything and will make thousands on a day that no one is enforcing!! SPREAD THE WORD WE DESERVE TO KNOW
