Hoboken’s reputation among umpires

3/19/2008:

With the Hoboken Board of Education election coming up next month, here’s another topic that should be brought up.

The BoE has a massive bloated budget, but it seems they have a hard time paying for hired help! Why, too much money to count?

Baseball Umps stay away from Hoboken

baseball-umpires-dislike-hoboken.jpg“I am someone who is born and raised in Hoboken and I take a lot of pride in our town. I really like your website and i find it very informative, so I thank you for that.

I am currently attending an umpires class, which is a class where you become a certified umpire in order for you to officiate high school baseball and softball games. At this class I expressed to the elder umpires my interest in umpiring for Hoboken High and they told me never to umpire for Hoboken. And I wondered why, this is my home town and I want to umpire here. So the other umpires told me how that if you umpire for Hoboken you either never get paid or you have to wait months to get paid.

I was very disgusted to hear this because I did not like to here that my hometown has such a bad reputation. And I even heard a coach from Hoboken saying that is why he could never get a good umpire. I still don’t understand on how or why the umpires do not get paid or have to wait months to get paid . I think for a town where budgets are so high this should not be a problem. I just think this should be brought to someones attention.”

easy e wrong again ! to be an umpire you have to be able to take the heat from fans -parents – coaches- players and who ever else ! my point is at 14 you are not ready for all that shit . like i said in my other post the kid was barely out of little league himself! at 14 you should not be an umpire if you wanna be involved at that age there are plenty of other things to make money !!!! TRUST ME EASY ON THIS ONE IM DOING THIS FOR 20 YEARS ! YOU WERE PROBALY STILL SUCKING ON YOUR MOTHERS T!TS WHEN I GOT INVOLVED IN YOUTH BASEBALL
you should go to recreation and sign up there i know for a fact HOBOKEN LITTLE LEAGUE is short on umpires especially on weekends & on saturdays you can make a good buck cause you can do about 4 games… for some reason hoboken little league is always short on umps towards the end of the season ! i would think you might enjoy little league a little better it’s more fun and probaly a little easier…hope to see you up there..
I think the point is they may be short of umpires being the league isn’t paying their Umpires in a timely fashion.

Baseball is a pretty simple game. You either know the rules or not, it’s hardly a duty that requires you to be a man to do it properly.
