Perpetual snow clean fail in Hoboken

They used to be good at cleaning snow in Hoboken. Now? FAIL!

Here’s a little photo essay that summarizes what winter in Hoboken has been like for the past five or so years: A giant snow fail!

I remember when Roberts was in office – it didn’t matter how much snow we had. They cleaned that shit up like ASAP. Trucks would HAUL the snow away within days.

Now? Multiple “street cleaning” weeks go by. And yet difficult icy snow conditions remain – even months later! Some streets never get “treatment” at all!

Let’s see some examples…

Empty Streets – No cleanup

Residents did their “fair share” and moved their cars. Where was the city? How come previous administrations did it better?

Bus Stop Danger Zones

No one put any effort into ensuring that the bus stops were clear. I guess NJ Transit kicked Hoboken to the curb.

Narrow street gauntlets

Drivers were forced park the best they could. It turned many streets into narrow gauntlets.

Handicapped drivers? They’re on their own, too!

Spotted this senior citizen couple with ICE PICKS trying to clean their spot. “Hmmph,” says city hall!

You really DO need an SUV in Hoboken!

I used to mock all the SUV drivers in an urban environment. But now I’m starting to get why!

Ahhh – but some snow DOES get cleaned!

I did see ONE instance where snow was getting removed (amazing, but true!) But I think it was “favorable” cleanup treatment – as this was in the neighborhood of Zimmer cronies and supporters.

No matter what the explanation was – we have had a VERY EASY winter when it comes to snow. There is NO EXCUSE whatsoever. Unless that excuse is “I’m unfit to be “mayor” and hereby resign.”

…This morning I was greeted with a hanging Drivers’ side mirror, along with 3 or 4 other people’s cars equally missing their drivers’ mirrors. 6th St btw Madison/Monroe. The snow removal ‘effort’ was so shoddy, streets are even narrower. I even went to park as far as I could w/o encroaching on the sidewalk (I might get TOWED!) So there goes some pocket change going to Amazon to get yet my 4th (5th???) mirror. There’s serious potholes on that 1 block strip, I can believe mirrors were a casualty while trying to dodge these potholes. Or probably a garbage truck barreling down the block, with no F’s given.

I witnessed Hoboken’s version of plowing today on Willow betweenn 11th and 12th. It’s a Tuesday street cleaning and the block has the wonderful back-angle parking. There was 1 car that didn’t move so most of the block was empty. The plow put its blade down on the front edge of the parking spots and moved nothing out of the way. The entier block is still covered and there was zero effort applied to clearing it. All it accomplished was another ticket written for teh 1 car that didn’t move. If they aren’t even going to try, why make residents move their cars?

The fraud of the admin in the collection of taxes for street cleaning and not performing, is made evident in the Maxwell house pump debacle. The City claims that they clean Maxwell house streets. Take a look at Maxwell’s streets it is readily apparent that their streets are cleaned and the City streets are not. Maxwell house corrected the city in this matter toute suite. Dirty lies!

You have a short memory. Roberts’ snow removal program was called “Spring”. Zimmer’s plan is called “Summer”. Roberts and Zimmer both have miserable records when it comes to snow removal. The last time anyone got it right was during the Russo days. That’s when they actually removed the snow from the streets.
Zimmer is a complete failure, but Roberts wasn’t much better.

you’re making my blood boil with these pics. My dog is sick – again – from the open garbage in the street. Five lb pork roast sitting on the curb because Hoboken told folks it is OK to leave food out in plastic garbage bags on the curb for hours.
