Is this considered “double parking?”

3/14/2008:

I personally don’t see the big deal in this, but some people have wondered if there are no cars there, is it considered double parking?

It’s a regular sight on Washington St. to see cars waiting for 5-10 minutes to let the street cleaner go by in the morning, then quickly claim their nice & clean spot.

I agree with appo..whatever. It’s bullshit that these bagel store workers and hairdressers on washington, along with all the terrible-driving asian delivery guys take up all the spots on Washington. Start ticketing them!

Has anyone ever noticed who owns those cars? Guess what – most of them do not have resident permits. They are the employees of the many business which line Washington Street. They do not park for the allowed 4 hour maximum – they park there all day long. Further downtown, they feed the meters. Every day. Same people. I’ve watched them from my window. No permits, no commercial passes, just illegal parking. I’ve asked some of my local office workers I know who don’t live in Hoboken but work here why they don’t park in the municipal or other parking lots. “We don’t want to have to pay to park every day” is the consistent response. Yet I pay my property taxes and can’t find a spot in my own neighborhood. Duh – ever wonder why the residents have trouble parking? Of course, the cops don’t enforce the parking regs but that’s another story.

We’re all about builing UP in Hoboken. I never understood why the City does not go into contract with a couple of these places with prime locations on Washington Street, like Haven Savings Bank – to build up. They have parking. Turn that into a parking garage where someone would actually like to park, like center Hoboken. No one wants to park on 14th Street when then are doing busineess in town. Build parking where the parking is needed.

not sure why a lot of you people get all bent out of shape over double parking. direct that energy toward the boobs you elect (or don’t elect, if you don’t participate) who have the creativity of an earth worm in trying to come up with parking solutions (which do exist, btw). people do need to live, and not everyone wants to walk 25 blocks roundtrip. just seems like a waste of time, all these double-parking and illegal parking posts. same thing with the cops. who cares where they park? you want them wasting time circling the block to find a parking space?? again, it ain’t their fault City Hall is a bunch of amateurs.
