Leaking water main- 11th & Hudson

3/17/2008 Update:

Forgot to mention this a few days ago, but this leaky water main was repaired late Friday, and a massive break was avoided. Good job!

3/13/2008:

For nearly a week now, the street has been leaking a steady stream of water at the intersection of 11th/Hudson/Sinatra.

A call about this apparent water main/pipe leak was made to the HPD a couple days ago, but it has not been remedied by Uniter Water yet. Is this another water main break just waiting to happen? I can’t imagine the water seeping through the pavement like this is too safe.

Ooh, shudder… yes, personalt, that looks like the service pipe, not the water main. That can cost bucks. We have insurance from United Water so if that breaks, they will come out and fix it. Even if they charge us again, it’s worth it to have a big company who is at City Hall every day going down there for the permits and showing up when they need to, instead of depending on little guys who might have more important jobs lined up when my personal emergency happens.

Based on the picture that isnt really a united water main.. that is the pipe from the main water main to the house. I think that would be home owners responsibiltiy. As you can see yellow truck is not united water.

Good. That had been leaking since at least last Monday.

The big problem with these water main leaks is often not the wet street above. It’s the cavernous voids below the street and sidewalk that can be created by the leaking water main. Dirt underneath the street can migrate if the condition is allowed to fester, and then it’s sinkhole time! Not good.
