Del Frisco’s Grille

Del Frisco’s Grille Hoboken coming to 221 River Street – Fall 2015

As we told you this past December, Del Frisco’s Grille is definitely coming to the new Pearson building downtown (official address: 221 River Street), and they hope to be open later this year (“fall.”)

Here’s a cookie-cutter description for the new “bar and grill:”

“Modern, inviting, stylish and fun, Del Frisco’s will take the classic bar and grill to new heights, drawing inspiration from bold flavors and market-fresh ingredients. The energetic bar, a destination in itself, will create a buzz throughout the restaurant and sets the stage for an amazing night out. The patio will provide the perfect perch to catch a glimpse of the action and offers some of the best al fresco dining. It’ll be your place to eat with a friend and catch up on the latest or make new friends at the bar.

Del Frisco’s Grille uses local ingredients alongside new classics that are easy to share with friends: Wood Oven-Baked Flatbreads, Cheesesteak Egg Rolls, and Ahi Tacos. The menu also includes a selection of prime steaks, hearty salads, formidable sandwiches and chef-inspired entrees.”

Nothin’ better than a “formidable” sandwich, right?

Del Frisco’s Grille coming to Hoboken, NJ

12/27/2014 Update:

Apparently, based on a Craigslist posting, Del Frisco’s Grille is coming to Hoboken, NJ – and is looking for an Executive Chef and General Manager.

Del Frisco’s Grille is part of the Del Frisco’s Restaurant Group of “high end” restaurants which includes Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse and Sullivan’s Steakhouse. They collectively have several dozen restaurants located throughout the country. They’re a publicly-traded company currently valued at over half a billion dollars.

Del Frisco's Grille Hoboken NJ coming soon

So pull up a chair and share with your neighbor.

Our food is over-the-top delicious and is sure to get your friends talking. We dish up creative twists on American comfort classics and serve them to be shared. Each menu includes regional favorites using locally sourced ingredients and features the finest local flavors.”

Hoboken, NJ now commands top rents

The job postings listed online have since expired – and no information was directly available as to where they’re going to be located (if at all). But our best guess (at the moment) is the new Pearson Education building down along the waterfront, which seems to be the most “prime” location I could think of (in terms of pedestrian-density and proximity to mass transit & plus NYC views).

Other possibilities that crossed our minds were the new Park and Garden Hoboken building, 1450 Washington or Maxwell Place uptown – but not sure those areas are suitable. Where else could a place like this go?

Del Frisco's Grille hiring Hoboken NJ

I thought maybe the old Melting Spot spot at 1st & River, but it looks like it will still become a World of Beer (franchise) location.

You can presume one thing – wherever they set up – rent will be through the roof.

But when you sell $20 burgers & wraps, $50 steaks and $10 french fries, along with a steady stream of customers and a good reputation, probably just a drop in the bucket.

How many people in Hoboken can afford “high end” dining?

Even if a couple just went out for “burgers” and a couple drinks – you’re looking at $100 tab (plus tip) every single time. Double or triple that if you opt for choice cut steaks, appetizers and bottle(s) of wine. A lot different than ordering a pint of pork-fried rice from a Chinese place. Sure, for special occasions, or only “semi-regularly” (i.e., once a month), but I can’t see too many people opening up their wallets for “routine” dining at a place like this.

However – this place will still do very well in Hoboken – because it will attract many visitors to the Mile Square. Getting to Manhattan by car is a pain in the neck. A couple would save $50 right of the bat not paying tunnel tolls and NYC parking.

Now if only those visitors are smart enough to pony up for a garage here in town, and not risk getting booted by the HPU thugs remains to be seen.
