lululemon athletica coming to Hoboken, NJ
Here goes the revolving door of chains again in Hoboken. Replacing the much loved Hoboken Paint and Hardware (Hoboken’s last remaining hardware store open 7 days a week) is yoga clothing store lululemon athletica.
The main premise of lululemon (who has over 200 locations with $1.3 billion in annual sales) is to “make technical athletic apparel for yoga, running, dancing and most other sweaty pursuits.”
While very much a “chain” store – their “claim to fame” is only putting stores in locations in order to “have strong ties to our local communities.” In other words, you won’t find lululemon in a big mall.
You probably know whether or not that matters to the other (non-billion dollar small businesses). A chain is a chain no matter how “warm and fuzzy” they may be. lululemon also has yoga studios in-store, as well as frequent in-store events like self-defense and other feel-good stuff. Regardless of how they became so big is irrelevant. People love them, and Hoboken is by far the yoga-pant capital of the world!
