I posted this over the weekend and feel it's worth repeating:

It’s tough to pay the salaries for those new teachers when you’ve got to pay the outgoing superintendent (Patrick Gagliardi) $427,429.94 for unused sick and vacation time!

For what it’s worth, his retirement agreement was negotiated and signed by then Board President and financial bulldog Carmelo Garcia.

It’s tough to pay the salaries for those new teachers when you’ve got to pay the Director of Facilities, Tim Calligy, a 28% raise over three years (from $93,841 in 2004/2005 to $119,658 in 2007/2008).

Calligy is one of the five non-union employees that Jimmy Farina and Carmelo Garcia were pushing hard to give retroactive raises for the last two years. Looks like he’s done okay.

Calligy was once the city’s Director of Environmental Services under Mayor Russo. It’s apparently all about who you know or knew.
where is the tape? The April 2nd Council meeting is already up, but not the school budget meeting. WTF

I really hope they tape the candidate debate and get it on the air before the election.
the only way we will ever be able to see it,if Beth Mason will send her Guy and put it on wethepeoplereports.com. Please Mrs. Mason would you please tape this for us? The school board will not pay someone to tape it, like they say "forgetaboutit"
I have been on the Hoboken Public Schools site: http://www.hobokenk12.powertolearn.net/ and the City of Hoboken website and have yet to find out information regarding where and when the public voting of the School Budget will be held. But I do see Mayor Roberts in some new public relations pictures.
*******
You vote at your regular voting location. I think you should be getting a sample ballot in the mail which will tell you your location.

Maybe, Krew. I like your read better. I feel badly for the kids, who for all we know may have aced the entrance exams.

Red, I think we all agree the Hoboken schools especially HHS need to be improved and ill serve the students as they are.

APB, I agree with you. I never went to HHS and *I* was pissed off by some of the comments that were made.
On the other hand I think it's unfair to say that kids get into prestigious schools simply because of their family connections. I see no reason to pre-judge the offspring of politicians, or indeed to bring them into the political mix at all--it just seems below the belt. I also think its unfair to accuse High Tech and some Catholic schools of unethical behavior without any supporting evidence.
I don't think that's an indictment on the kids, but on the adults who perpetuate an obscure admissions policy.
