anyone ever been to the SohoGrand? we could have had something like that if we had any real people of character involved in this project. instead we got this terrible place.
Soho Grand is terrible...i'm speaking of just the bar...it's in the front of the hotel and it runs along the front, with bars on opposite ends. it was jam packed with tourists and was nothing special at all.

Did anyone actually go to the Chandelier Room this past weekend? I checked out Lobby Bar and their specialty drinks were 12-16 bucks...Def worth checking out for 1 drink, but not to spend a whole nite drinking there, unless mommy and daddy pay for your rent
Or if Uncle Sam pays your rent.
if those parents pay for junior's rent so he can go spend $14.00 for a martini at the lobby bar of the W then both junior and the parents belong at the W.

But Biffy B is kinda cute when he tries to justify this all-nighter of an expense.

I love the fact that the W has opened in Hoboken. The waterfront is such an improvement than the wreck yard that was there when I first moved here in the 1990's.

However, the rates are too high for me to benefit when extended family who doesn't even like me calls the day before to let me know they're crashing at my place for the weekend and I won't even see them for all the parties and shopping of which they'll take part. That said, I wish that a few small, affordable bread and breakfast B&B joints would open up around town. How nice would it be to refer the uninvited to these places?

The W might not be what everyone wanted, but it definitely seems a cut above the average Hoboken joint... besides, at least it is something different.

I like hotel bars, but they are usually cost prohibitive... that is why when I decide to go I usually go to Bemelman's at the Carlyle or the King Cole Bar at the St. Regis... old school pro's mixing perfect drinks...

You say it like it's a bad thing, that someone has parents that can afford to pay for their rent. Somewhere someone is working hard for that money. If the parents wish to help their kids out and pay for their rent, so be it.

Dont hate!

Have you been to the W yet?
yes. i have been to the hoboken W twice. once for drinks and once for drinks and dinner. it is very similiar to the 2 W's i have been to in NYC. this is their style and it's exactly what i expected. more a concept than a reality. they never execute as promised. bad service is the norm. no bill can be too high. and if it were possible to morph the notion of "chic" into "tacky" these guys have captured it perfectly.
