Reader Mail: Elysian Park Characters

2/21/2008:

Today, we have a Hoboken411 reader who wants to let those of you that use Elysian Park to be aware of an incident that happened this week, just to be on the safe side.

“Just an FYI to anyone in and around Elysian Park. Last night, there were a group of very sketchy (and frankly scary) young guys milling around. They were staring at me and my aunt (we were in the dog run with my two small and very friendly dogs) and definitely looked like they were up to something.

Luckily, I knew my sister was going to be meeting us there in a minute or two with her two 100+ pound dogs and once they saw the dogs approach and come into the dog park, they left the dog run area and went to the opposite side of the park. Just to let people know to be very careful in that area. I’ve definitely never seen a group like that around and I bring my dogs to that park almost every single night after work and have never felt threatened or nervous, even when I’m there alone.”

I should point out though, that the Hoboken Police do multiple “detail checks” of this park and all others every day and night to ensure everything is on the up and up.
I remember in the 80’s that park was one of the scariest parks to go though those uptown boy’s would be drunk all the time but most of the time they were harmless they just liked to “have fun” .. But the worst park was church square “formally known as forth street park” if you did’nt know one of the boy’s that hung out in that park at night your azz was in trouble !!!! I remember being scared to go to the library and that was during the day ! “arrr those were the day’s” But i’d love to know were these people grew up if look’s scared them ??
I say we start a community watch patrol. I will take 4-5PM Monday-Friday and the rest of you hosers can work the balance of the schedule out.
