Hoboken, we have a {homeless} problem

Homeless Serial Fecal oFFenders on the rise in Hoboken

Some might say “nah, we don’t have a homeless issue in Hoboken,” but based on the growing trend in various parts of town – they’d be proven wrong.

Homeless Fecal Matter in Hoboken NJ parks

Hoboken parks like a third world nation?

Up at Stevens Park – the homeless “population” seems to have been growing over the past several years. Not sure if it’s the economy in general, the fledgling city administration, or what.

And what’s worse is that now these homeless show no shame in depositing fecal matter almost anywhere. Including all the park benches and chairs inside and outside the dog park.

From nasty turds on lawn chairs, to disgusting beer diarrhea sprays on benches. Cops used to perform regular detail checks to remove people from the parks after the designated hours (11pm in the summer). Perhaps the dwindling police force is to blame, who knows.

You’ll know for sure that shit has (literally) hit the fan – if the city starts spending property taxpayer money on TOILET PAPER DISPENSERS for ordinary park benches.

I drew no connection between homelessness and the shit on the chair. I even pointed out that it might not be from the homeless. I added as an aside a recommendation of how to have clean bathrooms.

Same reason I wouldn’t is because the City park bathrooms are filthy

You think they are shitting on park benches because the public bathrooms are too dirty? Does that really make sense to you?

I’m not debating that park bathrooms are filthy, but given a choice between a filthy bathroom and no bathroom, I’m sure they would use the filthy one. The real issue is that there aren’t bathrooms available (park bathrooms closed at night, no room in shelters, etc).

Go back and read my comments. I did not say that at all.
You think they are shitting on park benches because the public bathrooms are too dirty? Yes you did:

rhall1124: If they aren’t already using the free public bathrooms that are available why would they use them if they had to pay?

Haven’t you realized that animal_lover is rife with inconsistencies…it is a product of sitting at home all day typing in anonymity.
Yes you did:rhall1124: If they aren’t already using the free public bathrooms that are available why would they use them if they had to pay?animal_lover: Same reason I wouldn’t is because the City park bathrooms are filthy
It could be poop from the homeless, but how do you know it is? I have seen kids using the park as a bathroom and then there is also there are well publicized cases like the San Marino Mayor leaving shit around to thwart an opponent. Also in divorces couples have been know to literally sling shit in others property.

The solution I propose would be like in the park at 23rd in Manhattan – use a shelter type bathroom that is self-cleaning (for the most part) and requires a quarter to use.

So your solution to stop homeless people from shitting in the parks is to institute pay-toilets? The issue here isn’t dirty bathrooms, its dirty parks. If they aren’t already using the free public bathrooms that are available why would they use them if they had to pay?

If it gets bad enough maybe UNICEF can customize one of their recent PSAs for our use:

This is just wrong. And on another note, did anyone else get a “Pampers” ad that came up next to this story? Not a bad idea.
