916 Automated parking facility

Does anyone park here?
Back in 2004, I used to park in this garage when it was maintained by Robotic. Since then (and the massive costly debacle this turned into), I no longer choose to place my car in what was once considered a “roulette wheel” of a parking facility.
However, with the winter coming up (and hopefully tons of snow!), I’m re-considering whether I should (or even can) use the garage.
So my question is - does anyone currently use the Automated Garage? If so, how do you like it? Is it reliable now?

Anyone know the current status? I had car out for a few days (garage had been working better) and tried to put it in the garage last night and this AM…no luck. There were cones blocking the 2 entrance bays.

Any Update on the Automated Garage? I heard cars were let back in. Are they at full capacity?

Parking Utility Dir. Corea stated at a previous council meeting that it was operational and not fully occupied but he expected that it would be. According to some experts in the field, it might be advisable to sell the garage since it will take years to pay off its debt. In this is the case, any profit after paying off the debt should be used for parking solutions and not for deficit spending as was the case when selling assets in the past

What’s the average price for a spot? i went on the city’s website and it said i could get one for 125 a month — i thought that a little too good to be true and of course it was.
hmmmmmmmmmmm?

It used to be $200 - then I think it increased to either $250 or higher…

We park our two cars in that garage, and we pay $200 per car per month. We have had no trouble with the garage lately at all.
The one bad thing about the garage is that the pallet size is quite small so if your car is very big and/or wide, your car may not fit. It seems many cars are much wider now than they were in 2001 or 2002 when it first opened.

I park my car there and drive it out only once or twice a month, however 2 of the last 5 times I needed my car I told them to forget about it because the wait was longer than 20 minutes and I would have been late to where I was going. The guys on the phones couldn’t be nicer about cancelling the car via remote computer. Once when my car (a very common midsize sedan) got stuck in the elevator at 6:30 on a Sunday morning when there was no one on scene, the guy on the phone offered to call me back when the car could be available so I could wait at my home instead of at the garage, but I opted to take my morning walk in Hoboken instead of where I’d planned as it would be unfair to ask my friends to wait for me past the planned time.
Anyway, it’s not very reliable as far as retrieval time, so if it’s something important you’re driving to, such as my grandmother’s funeral during round 1 of the garage’s life that I had to take a cab to due to garage problems, I would suggest taking the car out a day early and parking it on the street.

I lived through the original morning gamble- things are much better now. There has n ot been one day I could not get my car out in the morning; but if a few people are before me it may take 10- 15 minutes. Once in a while there’s a 1/2 hour delay returning at night. The staff is more friendly than before, at the expense of technical expertise. I pay $200/ month and really have no other option- I wish I had a PBA medallion so I can park in the crosswalk!

I passed by there Sunday night… I happened to stare inside to catch the Steelers-Charges score. The guy who worked there seemed really excited about the concept of an automated parking garage. I explained that this didn’t excite me (since I’ve known about its existence for some time.) He continued to gush about it as I walked down the block. Nice guy, but seemed to enjoy his job a little too much. I guess it’s good to have pride in your work.

After Robotics lost the contract, parking & retrieval can take 20-30 minutes. After demolishing the historic Girl Scout clubhouse (which stood behind the health building at the site), the parking structure became another patronage contract handed to Marchetto. The project was mis-managed by then parking authority director Don Pellicano. Here’s a link to some sparring on a blog the guy from Robotics and Pellicano engaged in: parkingtoday.typepad.com/parking_blog/2005/12/more_on_hoboken.html
Fast forward to Corea’s reign…Hoboken then had the copyrighted software illegally copied in Israel leaving Hoboken vulnerable to an “intellectual property rights” lawsuit. The pirated software deal meant that the new director, John Corea could have a nice trip overseas at our expense. Two days in Tel Aviv, five days in southern Italy maybe? I’d love to see those travel records and expense reports. Is that the sound of shredders I hear?
