Reader Mail: Recent Burglary

2/6/2008:

Here’s a Hoboken411 reader who was recently robbed during the day over on Adams Street. In addition to losing the usual high-priced electronics, he lost a treasured piece of jewelry.

Don’t let this happen to you!

hoboken-burglary-crowbar.jpg“I read Hoboken411 quite frequently and thought I’d share what recently happened to me.

I live on Second and Adams and last week I got home from work around 7:30pm and noticed the door to my apartment was unlocked and looked severely damaged (there have been quite a few problems lately with the “secure” door, not locking all the way). The deadbolt did not work as well as the regular lock and it looked as if someone took a crowbar to my door.

At first I saw my TV was in place so I didn’t think anything was missing when the cops first got there. When the locksmith arrived shortly after I went into my bedroom and noticed that things were scattered everywhere, and several items were missing including, my video camera, digital camera, ipod and speakers, 2 watches, dvd players, several other items, and most importantly, a necklace that was given to me that belonged to my deceased father.

hoboken-burglary-crowbar-3.jpgI am upset about everything that has happened, but the necklace was the most personal thing I owned. It was a thin 14K gold necklace with T and four diamonds inside the T. I know the readers of this site are very helpful and I am hoping that you can pass this along if anyone notices or comes across this necklace to please let me know.

I also want to inform Hoboken411 readers to be more cautious of their own apartments and to please get renters insurance (which I was in the midst of doing). If anyone has any tips about the missing necklace matching that description, please email Hoboken411.”

There was a foot chase between a somewhat fat guy (fleeing) and two bigger guys (chasing) Wednesday (yesterday) at 6:47 pm on 9th Street between Willow Ave and Clinton St. I was on the bus south on Willow and watched the guy get taken down there.
Was he holding a large screen tv wrapped in my bedroom comforter?
Wanted to post a similar type of burglary that occurred on Wednesday, 6/18 on Garden between 8th and 9th. I emailed Hoboken411 with more details regarding specifics.

But it was the same m/o, done during the day, unit door opened with crowbar. Similar items stolen, looks like they did it pretty quickly and in one swoop.

Has anyone heard of anything similar going on or did anyone notice anything going on in this vicinity?
Yeah that was my building and thankfully not my apartment but still angers and unsettles me as well as the victim and the rest of the owners/renters. These guys/guy/gals/gal were pros and did it in broad daylight. They took a 42″ tv right out the front door. That takes some serious balls or inside knowledge.

If the dirtbags that did this break into my unit when I am there the cops will need a sponge to identify the perp as there will be nothing left of them. It’s too bad our condo isn’t right by a Duncan Donuts. Maybe we would get some more police patrol coverage.
The higher your unit the more likely it is to get broken into. particularly the top floor of a walk up with roof access. — quoted by the HPD after a 5th floor break in a few years back.
If they can surivive the 95 degree heat inside our apartment (because my roomate loves to turn it on after we leave and forgets to turn it off), I’ll be the first to congratulate them
