Reader Mail: Menendez is Rude
Another mail segment today comes from a Hoboken411 reader who’s brother is serving in Iraq. He wanted everyone to know how rude politicians can be.
“My brother is currently serving in the U.S. Navy for five years. He volunteered to go to Bagdad, Iraq, and has been there since last May. I’m very proud of him and all he does to protect our freedom. He serves in a joint task force and writes briefs that go to General Petraeus. Things have been going extremely well there (as you can tell by the lack of Iraq coverage in the NY Times) and the surge is working. My brother was asked to meet with Senator Robert Menendez about 2 weeks ago.
He was excited to meet the senator and explain to him how things were going compared to how they are reported. When he finally was introduced to him, he was wearing a beaten up grey sweatshirt. Even the troops who are fighting must dress better. The senator was extremely rude and looked as if he was doing my brother a favor by being there. He became even more dismayed when my brother said how well things were going in Iraq. This was not the answer he wanted to hear.
All in all, my brother came away from the conversation extremely hurt. This representative of the United States didn’t show one ounce of compassion for the work being done there and seemed above everyone who was working so hard for our country. Even after explaining about me living in Hoboken, he didn’t seem to care about a word that was said.
I just thought our Hoboken community would like to see what a fine politician we have elected.”
