Fire victims reach out for help

1/29/2008:

I received an email, plus a Hoboken411 reader posted this entry that a well-liked mother of three that could use your help. She was one of the many victims in yesterdays fire at 1203 Washington St. You can email here at: sharletteyates@hotmail.com or drop the goods off at Emanuel’s Salon at 89 Washington Street.

hoboken-fire-victims-donations.jpg“There was a fire in Hoboken last night and a mom of a little girl in my class lost everything.

She has three children altogether and cares for them on a very small income.
Though she is grateful they are all alive, the kids, of course, are upset at losing all of their belongings and their home.
With some prodding, this is what I got her to tell me about what the kids might need if anyone has anything they no longer use and would like to donate.

6 year old girl. She wears size 8-10 clothing. Her shoe size is anywhere from 13 to 1 1/2. She loves Dora and stuffed animals and reading books.

10 year old boy. He wears sized 14-16 clothing. His shoe size is 6. He loves wrestling action figures and army figures and his MP3 player.

16 year old teenager. He wears jeans size 36 or 38 and length 32 and collared shirts to high school in size 2X. (I think these are more like golf shirts with long sleeves? But maybe when the weather is nicer golf shirts would be fine too?) He wears size 12 sneakers and shoes. He loves his Ipod and whatever else 16 year-old boys love.

The mother wears size 16 jeans or pants and extra large tops. Her shoe size is nine.

She is kind and humble and I know she would never ask for herself so I am giving her needs a voice.

Believe me all of your donations will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you”

Shockey – Thank you for the support.

If anyone knows a Calabro student, they’ll be selling post card boosters to benefit the Calabro families affected. I believe they’ll be distributed today. Also, I’m going to sell booster Hershey bars at the Hoboken high school entrance on Saturday morning. Hershey bars, $2; post card boosters, $1. If the booster bottles of water are ready, they’ll be $2 also. Buy the boosters!

Hey sunnybrook Check out your facts before opening your big ignorant mouth. There were more than 4 “victims” of the Mcswiggans fire. The people in the 5 apartments next door also had to find a new place to live and several houses on Bloomfield St. also had to be temporarily evacuated due to the tremendous smoke. As for the fundraisers, friends help friends and does it really matter who raises what as long as the people receive help? And maybe bigmouth Sandy should have posted that she did indeed receive her portion of the money that was collected after her constant bitching that she didn’t get anything! Also the pubcrawl was not a fundraiser for Mcswiggans fire victims. The organizer has one for a different charity every year and because one of Mcswiggans tenants belongs to the group some a**hole assumed it was for her.

I hope people realize that this fire was a much bigger tragedy & life-changing event than the McSwiggans fire. 60+ units affected (10 totally destroyed) vs. 4 units. Just seems to me there is little regard for their plight and these folks are getting the short end of the stick.

At this point there had already been multiple pub crawls for McSwiggan’s “victims”. God knows where the money went or who ended up profiting…just hope the same consideration is given to this crowd.
… If it’s done for the right reason(s)…only the people who receive it need to know.
I don’t sign my checks “Skateparkmom.” I’m still anonymous. Don’t you have homework to complete?
