Spring 2014 Hoboken Arts & Music Festival

Spring 2014 Hoboken Arts & Music Festival: Sunday, May 4th

The first of two Hoboken Arts & Music Festivals in 2014 takes place on Washington Street between Observer Highway and 7th Streets on Sunday, May 4th.

Like the movie Groundhog Day, you can mill around the streets from 11am to 6pm to see hundreds of (mostly) out-of-town vendors selling food, artwork, and myriad of other trinkets and tchotchkes.

Big attractions are typically the zeppoles and fried crab cakes – and of course Cake Boss oglers will be around too. Three music stages also set up. The main stage is south of the CVS downtown, a kiddie stage at 3rd Street, and a secondary stage at the north end of the festival between 6th and 7th Streets.

Some of this year’s featured musical acts include:

Groovy performance from The Black Hollies

One particular act that we’re interested in seeing is The Black Hollies.

Here’s a perfect song for the sheep as they enter their voluntary weekly enslavement called “employment” this morning. Not nearly as gloomy as the title suggests, and sounds like a mashup between trippy 60’s and today.

We try to enjoy the festivals each year, but think the performance area is dreary. Too small and the sound is never right. Why can’t the arts & music festival be moved to Pier A? Much better space. It’s not like local shops on Washington Street see a spike in business those days. More likely that they’re crowded out by the tents. Time for a change.

I’ll be in one of the new uptown corner booth spaces probably around 6th and Wash. Will have my “Mile Square Series” of limited editions of hand cut screen prints as well as other works like my New York City Series. Always looking forward to running into past collectors, meeting new people and seeing lots of friendly faces. For more information you can visit my site at http://www.RicardoRoig.com.
